File photo.Fiery demonstrations were mounted in sections of Kitson Town, St. Catherine on Sunday night following a controversial police shooting.
A service vehicle was destroyed after being set on fire by angry protesters.
The incident, which occurred about 8 o'clock, left one man dead and another nursing gunshot wounds.
It is understood that the police were in the Jacky Lane area of the community when shots were heard, following which it was discovered that two men had been shot.
One of the men died at hospital.
It is understood that a gun was recovered by the police after the incident.
Residents who were upset over the shooting reportedly set a police vehicle ablaze, forcing officers on the ground to call for reinforcements.
Up to late Sunday night, the area remained tense.
Member of Parliament for the area, Dr. Ken Baugh, who visited the scene, told our news centre that he contacted National Security Minister Senator Dwight Nelson and a full investigation will be carried out.
"I was called when two people were shot, two young men, one died in hospital...he was taken to hospital and pronounced dead the other one seemed to have escaped and has not been caught,"
"There was some tension in the area but at this point in time the crowd has dispersed. A police car was set on fire. I don't know exactly what happened there but I had gone to hospital to check on the one that was sent there but he's dead," Dr. Baugh said.
Residents told our news centre the injured man was mistreated by the police after being shot and this may have contributed to his death.
An alleged eyewitness said she saw the police throw the bleeding man into the back of a jeep which transported him to the hospital.
