A poster makes a claim; I ask said poster to elaborate on his claim, and you call that baiting. It's simple: if you make a claim, it's only reasonable for you to be asked for information in support of that claim. That's the nature of this board - certainly as I understand it.

I agree with most of that on Seaga. He should have stepped asside after losing the 89 election . However his greatest contribution was the fact that he did not consolidate more power after the 1983 PNP boycott, he could have changed the consitution. He even elected opposition Senators and kept lines of communicantion open to the opposition. That is his greatest acheivement.

.. I still think Cargil was the best commentator Jamaica had...I did not always agree with him.. But he was an antiodote to the excess religiousity that is such a feature of Jamaican public life...

Barry, Seaga was and still remains above the rest in terms of ability to think. None of the so-called financial and economic wizzards that we have today can compare to Seaga. Most of these above the rest type of people do have that arrogant trait. btw. Father Norman had that arrogant streak too. Eddie showed it more because he was more in the limelight whilst Father Norman passed on before the advent of advanced communication technology which spared him the likes of Motty Perkins even though Motty was alive and kicking for most of NWM`s life.

Hi there Q, long time &quot;no see, &quot;no hear&quot; hope all is well... To begin, what can I say? Yu know Q, I can remember when Seaga entered the consciousness of Jamaicans only too well because I witnessed it. Who can forget <span style="font-weight: bold">his dragon slaying victory</span> in West Kingston at the time? : from then, he was considerd the rising star, a young fresh face, an the injection of new blood into the party; I became aware of his ability and his competence because he started very early as a Cabinet member to effect certain changes in Jamaica. I think he was Minister of Development at the time when Newport West and New Kgn were on the planning table... Q, you know I'm an oldtimer, and should I mis-represent or distort what you know to be the facts, do me a favour and set me straight...

I often wondered, what would have been the outcome for Jamaica had Donald Sangster lived to carry on after Busta and to eventually pass the reigns of Leadership to a more mature Seaga? ~ but that is water under the bridge... However, before he assumed the JLP leadership, he began the process of leaving his mark or footprints on the development of Jamaica. It was at a time when the island's economy was still vibrant and Jamaicans were relatively peaceful, hopeful and non-tribal, a far cry from what exist today. On balance, I can't disagree that when the final history is written Seaga will be among the top three or four Jamaican Prime Ministers... Q, I agree that that he shared the sin of arrogance with the Manleys but his Ego had no match... My main beef against him, was hanging on to power too long! ~ One of the hallmarks of great leaders is to know when to pass the torch and step aside.. IMO. He failed in that depatment...

I can't help feeling that one way or the other we've got our knickers into a terrible tangle.

<span style="font-size: 14pt">As to Seaga, it should be emphasised that anybody who collects GCT and fails to turn it over to the Government is in fact using other people's money without their permission</span>. Here again there is no evidence that Seaga will be able to settle his debts. In any case, FINSAC should immediately proceed to try to recover what is owed to it. If this were to happen, Seaga would undoubtedly have to go into bankruptcy which would be a good way of putting him out of his misery as Leader of the Opposition. (him sure have some harsh tings fe say bout hi cousin.)

<span style="color: #FF0000">Here again Seaga's refusal to step down demonstrates where his real concern lies.

If both Robertson and Seaga were now to disappear from public life, politics would start to acquire a much-improved odour.
