THREE policemen were shot and injured and two men who police say were "known gunmen" lost their lives during an alleged gunbattle in Hannah Town, West Kingston yesterday.
Following the shooting, there was prolonged gunfire in sections of West Kingston as armed men challenged the police for almost two hours.

At the nearby Kingston Public Hospital (KPH), where the gunmen were pronounced dead and the injured cops admitted for treatment, police securing the facility had to take cover as gunshots rang out outside the institution's rear entrance. The incident sent staff, patients, reporters and dozens of residents who had converged to get word on the men's condition scurrying for cover.
No other injuries were reported.
Up to late afternoon the cops -- one of whom was shot in the neck -- were listed in stable condition.
Residents identified the dead men as Marvin 'Kingsley' Kelly and a man known only as 'Fruits Man'.
Police said both were known gunmen in the area, and that a Glock pistol and a bulletproof vest were taken from a house in which they were killed.
According to the police, they went into a section of the Denham and Hannah town communities for Kelly and 'Fruits Man', but came under fire from a group of heavily armed thugs.
"We understand that three officers were shot, one in the neck and one in the left arm. I don't know where the other officer was hit," said one of several high-ranking cops who visited KPH. "Two known gunmen were shot and killed also," he added.
Yesterday, the house where the two men were killed resembled a scene from a horror movie.
Clots of blood covered the living room floor downstairs, and virtually every wall on the second floor of the two-bedroom structure had bullet holes.
Bullets also damaged a television set and pieces of furniture on which blood-stained clothes were strewn about in one of the rooms.
Kelly's mother, identified only as 'Queenie', was brought to tears after she exited the building.
"I don't even see my son. Some people said that him dead and other people tell me that him don't dead; I don't know," she said, adding that her son lived at the house with the mother of his child.
"Is one time my son ever go to jail. I don't hear him name calling in anything and nobody -- no police or anybody -- can't come tell me what my son has done to die like this all now," she added.
Yesterday, Opposition spokesman on national security Peter Bunting condemned the shooting of the cops and blamed the incident on the Government's refusal to sign an extradition request for West Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
In a release to the press, Bunting said the incident pointed to a chronic breakdown of law and order in the country.
"The continued failure of the Government to uphold the law and treaties in relation to extradition is but one manifestation of its failure to pursue a clear course on crime," Bunting said.When its hot in the jungle of peace I go swimming in the ocean of love.....Comment

The usual script as you can see from the account above.
My suspicion though is that in many of these cases at least one of the persons crying for justice and an end to police brutality is the very person who fingered the deceased civilians but dare not exhibit any form of relief or satisfaction.
Back in the day - 1979/81 - I worked at a factory on Spanish Town road which had many employees from Waterhouse, Cockburn Pen/Gardens etc. A notorious gunman was ambushed by police - so the story goes - while taking a shower at a home which he shared with one of his girlfriends. Apparently she was disgruntled because he had slept out with another woman so she called the police when he was most vulnerable.
It is reported that the men killed were sleeping because they had been at a dance earlier. Apparently some of these guys whom the police are able to locate so easily in these guarded communities dance with one woman too many.Comment

The two men who were shot by the Police during an operation earlier yesterday (March 15) have died. Another person, a female, who was also shot in the incident, is in hospital and in stable condition.
One of the gunmen has been identified as Marvin Sylvester Kelly, otherwise called, ‘Top Man’, while the other gunman to die is yet to be positively identified. Kelly is a known member of the Colombia gang which operates in the Olympic Gardens area of St. Andrew. He was wanted for several murders including the recent murder of a two-year-old boy on White Wing Walk during an arson attack. He was featured at the top of the most wanted list for the St. Andrew South Police Division.
A team of police personnel was conducting an operation aimed at capturing Kelly and his cronies on the border of Hannah Town and Denham Town (Blount and Dumphries Streets) when they came under heavy and sustained gunfire from men locked in a house. Three policemen were injured when they tried to enter the house in question. The police also came under heavy gunfire from criminals perched on the roofs of surrounding high rise buildings.
Following the cessation of gunfire, Kelly and the unidentified man were seen injured in the house. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead. When Kelly was found he was clad in a ballistic vest and was clutching a Glock 19 pistol which contained a magazine with twelve (12) 9mm rounds. Over 100 spent shells (7.62 mm used in AK-47s and 5.56 used by the M-16s) were recovered from the roofs of the surrounding high rise buildings. In addition several police service vehicles were shot-up.
The Denham Police Station also came under gunfire. No one was hurt during this attack on the station. The incidents are being investigated by the Bureau of Special Investigations.
Since yesterday’s incidents several threats on the lives of policemen and women have been received. The Police consider these threats to be serious and are taking the necessary precautions.
The Police were supported by the Jamaica Defence Force which provided air and ground support.

The plantation owner are free to shoot as much as they please.
But the slaves are criminalized by the simple ownership of guns.
For most people the only way to fire a gun is by being a criminal.Comment

Doc you hit the nail on the head ,a very interesting picture indeed,but i am sure you are aware that the average black Jamaicans are quite happy with the status quo,fact is, some people on the board might even get upset because you dare to post this picture.Comment

What else would you expect from mental slaves??
You can try to take people out of slavery, but you can't transform their mind unless a distinct effort is made to do so.
That is what I am trying to do.
And as usual they are very resistant to it.
Anything, act or information that prod people to examine their self esteem, or fears, are usually subjected to aggression.

it seems right now the citizens would need m-16s, a-r15s, ak-47s, rocket-propelled grenades, glocks, shotguns, tanks....

Citizens should at least have the right to duss out any soldier or police officer (worse if they are not wearing an uniform) who enters his/her home uninvited - <span style="text-decoration: underline"><span style="font-weight: bold">except</span></span> where there is evidence that a violation of another person was actually being committed at the time of invasion.
In any other case, <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="text-decoration: underline">any killing of any attacker</span></span> by the resident with a legal weapon should be regarded as self-defence.
If the attacking agents of the state kill the resident and cannot prove that a captive was being physically violated then they should be charged with MURDER - illegal weapon or not (because we all know about that).
It cannot be that anyone can barge into your house and you are crippled by apprehension. Anyone can claim to be a police officer. How do I verify this while I'm under attack?
Such laws probably wont be passed, but this is how I think it should be.
This is probably the only position of authority (other than political representative) where criminal breach of trust is usually "punished" with a slap on the wrist and a transfer elsewhere or to a desk job.Comment

This is why I fear roadblocks - especially at nights. Maybe we should have the same rules for roadblocks that I suggested before for home invasion.

THE relatives of Jamaica Urban Transit Company employee Everton Parchment are clamouring for justice, following his killing by the police early Easter Sunday morning.
Parchment, 32, died at the Kingston Public Hospital about 12:20, after he was shot by a policeman during a spot check on Spanish Town Road in Kingston, 10 minutes earlier.
According to his brother-in-law, Kevin Clarke, who witnessed the shooting, the incident occurred when they and two female friends were heading home from a wedding reception in Portmore, St Catherine.
"He (Everton) was driving and as we reached the vicinity of the St Andrew Technical High School, we saw someone standing in the roadway," said Clarke.
"We came down closer to the person and that was when we saw that it was a policeman and I said, 'Eva, is a police so try stop', and he did," continued Clarke, adding that what happened next was a shocker to everyone in the car and the other members of the patrol team.
Mere seconds after the vehicle stopped, and without a word, Clarke said, the officer opened fire hitting Parchment in the left side of his neck.
"I just heard the explosion, and after I heard it I jumped out of the vehicle and started asking the police what the shooting was for," Clarke said, adding that the frightened females began screaming.
"But then I realised I didn't hear Everton, so I went back into the car and saw him slumped to his left side," he recalled.
Clarke said after shaking Parchment repeatedly, he replied, "Teach, me aggo dead"; one of his last sentences as he gasped for air, he said.
The incident has left Parchment's sister, Audria, crippled with grief.
The despondent woman spent much of yesterday trying to find answers as to why her brother was killed in the manner he was.
"Why them kill him? He is not a gunman, he is a hard-working man coming from wedding? Tell me why?" she cried, her voice cracking in anger after each sentence.
Yesterday, Deputy Police Superintendent Arthur Brown, head of the Kingston West Police Division, while confessing that he knew about the incident, declined to comment on it.
Head of the Bureau of Special Investigations (BSI) Superintendent Granville Gause, however, said an investigation had been launched into the shooting, and that he was expecting to get a report on it soon.
"The BSI is investigating the matter, from morning the team has been out there and I have indicated to them that I need all statements and other information to be done and reported to me today," he said.Comment
