The chickens are well and truly home and settling down to a good nights kip.
I would agree that the present situation are a legacy of the seaga era, numerous governments have inherited the problem, however,it`s not all seaga`s fault,....I would suggest that the failure of the state to adress the problems of the disenfranchised youths in the ghettos of kingston has lead to where we are now.
For too long the status quo in places like tivoli has been left to grow and expand, the state has almost colluded with the dons and allow them to fill the vacuum, when you get a situation where the state has abandoned the people and they are being taken care of by dons then sooner or later there is going to be a conflict of interest between dons and people and the state,...and you done know the state always win.

My mistake, you are correct - but I notice that we are spending precious little time discussing the actual point I raised to begin the thread...
I think many of these arguments start from the same dishonest germ. That Eddie Seaga set out to build a Garrison.
The place was dump, it was a PNP enclave in what was sometimes a JLP stronghold. He fixed it up and almost intermediately it was attack. In the last 29 years it was attacked by the State on at least four occasions.
It would be foolish assume that residents will just sit and patiently wait for attacks without finding a means to repel them.
While we keep focusing on the the same lie that Eddie Seaga built a garrison and he is responsible for all the political tribalization in Jamaica it must have escaped our collective notice that for a price supporters of the rival Party are/were prepared to lay down their lives for the Don from the JLP Garrison built by Eddie.
I think if we keep believing in and regurgitating Comrade propaganda we will never solve our problems in Jamaica.
When Eddie resigned the Jamaica Gleaner needed two full-length pages to list his achievements.
In the period between 1972 and 2007 Jamaica has only achieve on period of positive growth that was under Eddie Seaga.
Maybe if others had been as stressful as his Government was, there would be no need for Garrisons.
The question is when did all the gang violence, gun importation, gang control and cooperation with the JLP and PNP begin? Was it not when the United States became displeased with Michael Manley's association with Cuba?
And who was the big friend of the United States then? The first head of state to visit newly elected right wing ultimate Cold Warrior President Ronald Reagan ? Right. Eddie Seaga.
The bigger question is why are there gangs, why does the drug trade once ganja and now more heavily cocaine thrive ?
The answer is poverty. Why is there poverty and want and despair and the push for the big money that the drug trade brings?
Because the type of capitalism that runs Jamaica's economy from the top down cannot, does not, will never be able to provide a decent life for all and especially for the very poor who live in the inner city poverty ghettoes, the garrisons.
You're doing it again.
You're discussing rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as it goes down rather than address the big hole in the side of the ship of state; its economy
WHICH DOES NOT, HAS NOT, CANNOT WORK IN A POOR COUNTRY LIKE JAMAICA.
Pointing fingers at either of the two business parties, the JLP and the PNP is not addressing the cause of all the problems.
Christopher Coke, the corrupt and collusive twin parties of Jamaica are but symptoms of the illness but isn't it easier to talk, talk, talk about them and do not a damn thing about the underlying cause of the problems?

It has been one year since Jamaica Constabulary Force and Jamaica Defence Force security personnel went into Tivoli Gardens on May 24, 2010 in search of Christopher 'Dudus' Coke.
Coke, who was also community benefactor, was wanted in the United States for gun and drug trafficking charges.
Susan Goffe, chairperson of Jamaicans for Justice, gives us an in depth perspective on the human rights issues surrounding last year's major event, which has left people with a feeling of uncertainty.
one thing that concerned me at the time more than most of the usual dicdats.. Was that there were students that missed exams because of the action....and there was no mechanism for resits.
