Otherwise we could outlaw taxes in most societies.

So wha was di original question/title?

In any case, it is the same old rhetoric...we seem to do more talking than actions...it is sad...who is calling for the death penalty?...


Mi membah wan post mi did here years ago when an atty membah did call for di death penalty...

IMO then, the executioner is/has become a murderer a criminal [wheddah sanctioned by di State or nat] and should suffah di same fate...when all is said an dun, di lass person left standing will be an executioner... :whooa dass if things are done fairly and squarely..

murdering murderers doesn't make the State any &quot;better&quot; than the/a murderer and we've seen that it has solved NADA over the years...it is NOT a deterrent.

If you are Jewish or Christian, the law is the law.
Faithfull is correct in that state murder is still murder and it coarsens the society as a whole.
It is not what Jesus would do.

With very few exceptions Cuba's prison sentences are limited to 30 years, no parole, no time off for good behavior..

If a man of 21 commits a serious crime and does the 30 years, he is 50 when he gets out and not likely to commit another serious crime.

That works for me.
The criminal is kept away from society but society does not have to kill him.

doc I dont agree with execution.. but at the moment there is a feeling in Jamaica that bring back hanging as a deterent. I would suggest that if this was put to the vote that it would be returned...

<span style="font-weight: bold">A judge in the northwest province of Tabuk in Saudi Arabia has allegedly sent letters to hospitals in the country asking if they could sever a man's spinal cord as punishment for paralyzing another man in a fight two years ago.</span>

&quot;We urge the Saudi Arabian authorities not to carry out such a punishment, which amounts to nothing less than torture,&quot; Hassiba Hadj Sahraoui, acting director of the Middle East and North Africa Programme of Amnesty International said in a statement over the weekend.

He was sentenced to seven months in prison without any legal assistance.

Amnesty International said there is a chance that the court would not go through with it, instead sentencing the man to prison, a fine or a flogging.

more than just these two faiths have this concept as a statute/commandment...
but of course there are &amp; have always been plenty of exceptions and footnotes;
war, meat eating, death penalty executions &amp; self defense are a few examples where this statute has been amended to be seen as acceptable in some cases...
it is an ideal that idealistic parties aspire to but can never achieve on this earth...
at least not to this point &amp; not in the forseeable future...

Wahalla, Isn't this what true DEMOCRACY is supposed to be all about? I would be one of the early voters in line to exercise my right and my duty to my homeland, Jamaica Land We Love!... For almost 50 yrs, many innocents have pleaded for their lives to cold blooded heartless, merciless MURDERERS who smiled at the pleasure of putting them away...

Yet there are those who would shower those &quot;beasts&quot; with love, sympathy and caring instead of giving them justice; I dont get it!... Hanging is brutal and barbaric but there are more humane alternatives. It's time for the referendum on this matter, Jamaicans should demand their democratic rights. vox populi vox dei...

Wally, the following is what I've deduced from the above : - It's like saying, that I dont agree with wars but when the outcome of some wars are beneficial, I'll close my eyes and mind to the horrible attrocities <span style="font-weight: bold">known and unknown</span> that were commited, and enjoy the benefits thereof... WW2 was such a war and is a case in point... State executions may not be considered &quot;civilized&quot; or acceptable to most of us but when it's neccessary, let's not play around...

So which is it? <span style="font-weight: bold"> Give me Liberty or give me Death</span> from the lips of Patrick Henry, the great American patriot... LIBERTY in most cases will only come to those who are prepared to Fight and Die for it against those who are not always willing to die for their less noble cause.. They may show external bravado, but deep down inside, they really are Cowards who prey on the weak and defenceless...

If the laws were applied and meant what they say, the <span style="font-weight: bold">Deterent Factor</span> would be in play.. Killers are running loose without paying for their multiple crimes, so they laugh at the law; there is definetely no deterent factor in Jamaica for the last 50yrs; Begin to exercise&quot; the law&quot; and it will gradually serve as a &quot;deterent&quot; not to all murders but to most... The main reason why witnesses are afraid to give testimony, is simply because the &quot;cowards&quot; would rather kill them than face their due justice of &quot;death&quot;... Is the killing of witnesses a&quot; fear they may die&quot;, put away or WHAT?

cant help it.. but at least 1/2 of his slaves prfered monarchy of the british than his vision of utopia...

I beleive in democracy... and I beleive in democrasy more than I beleive in the absence of a death penalty... Both Jamaican poltical parties have never given a free vote on the death penalty... I am happy that there is no judical death penalty in Jamaica but there is extra judicial executions.. We saw the video posted of the police that shot the man on the groud a week back.. and the sentiment in the crowd.. light im up kill im....

I personally dont beleive in the death penalty, but unfortunatley I beleive most Jamaicans dont share that sentiment at the moment because of the fear of crime and the fundamentalist chrisitinty that is at the root of our culture... just like I have no issue with homosexuality but most Jamaicans do. I have to acknowledge this...

Your belief is not unique when it comes to capital punishment and for that I have to respect your right to have and to express it. I personally hope that your belief resides within a minority of Jamaicans. However, I can't imagine how you would accept one form of execution and is so against another form <span style="font-weight: bold">when each form is actually doing the same thing which is the Killing of people! </span>

It's my belief that extra judicial executions by &quot;the police&quot; in Jamaica is not acceptable to a majority of the Jamaican people because of the absense of Justice under Law.. They would much prefer to have accused murderers, ganglords and others connected to criminal activities be tried in a court of law, and if found guilty received the justice they deserve.. Those who are guilty will end up dead either way, but it's the innocents who are mistakenly killed without their day in court.. Extra judicial Execution is not JUSTICE...
