Highway 2000 tolls set to increase
Motorists using Highway 2000 could soon be required to pay increased tolls.
The disclosure was made Wednesday morning by the Transport and Works Ministry, which has advised that it intends to increase the toll charged at both the Vineyards Toll Plaza and at the Spanish Town Toll Plaza.
All classes of vehicles could be affected by the proposed hike, which will result in class one vehicles paying $20 more to go through the Vineyards Toll Plaza.
The charge for class two vehicles will move to $230 while large vehicles will pay $450.
Under the proposed adjustments, motorists who drive cars will not face an increase, however drivers of class two vehicles, such as Sports Utility Vehicles, will be required to pay $70 at the Spanish Town toll booth while operators of class three vehicles will pay $130.
The Transport Ministry is inviting members of the public to comment on the proposed increases by submitting their concerns to the Toll Authority.
According to Public Relations Officer at the Transport and Works Ministry, Leo McEwan, the adjustments have been triggered by several factors, including what he cited as an increased inflation rate.
