broke her leg and concussion, missed common entrance, it was the principal of ardenne prep who rode with her to the hospital and stayed until my parents came, Ardenne was always a good school. The Driver came to our house and apologized, according to the crowd he treid to run and mi sister got dragged by the mini, the crowd almost kill him from what I heard. Jmaicans were and still are decent people unfortunately we going through a rough spell for the last couple of years.

DEBBIE-ANN Davey could not control her emotions yesterday.

Davey was up all night Thursday, waiting patiently for her common-law husband Ryan Sean Tomlinson, 35, to return home, after he had left the house to purchase parts for the motor car that was operated as a taxi.

Unfortunately, when Davey finally received news about her loved one it was not good.

Tomlinson's body was discovered in bushes along the Spanish Town Bypass early yesterday morning by residents who alerted the police.

An apparently shocked Davey said her spouse's death came as a surprise. She said Tomlinson, whom she had lived with for five years, was a "gentleman" and was puzzled why someone wanted to kill him.

"I will miss him. We have been together for about five years so you can imagine how I feel right now. He was a total gentleman," Davey said.

The Spanish Town police reported yesterday that about 5:00 pm Thursday, Tomlinson received a telephone call from the driver of his taxi that it was in need of mechanical parts.
Tomlinson, the police added, left the house on a motor bike that he borrowed from a friend to go and purchase the auto parts for the car at a store on Old Harbour Road, just outside of Spanish Town.

It was not clear if Tomlinson purchased the car parts.
Early yesterday morning, Davey, accompanied by one of Tomlinson's siblings, went to the death scene and confirmed the identity of the man she was waiting to see come home.
"Him face mud up, dem kill him!" she screamed.

Davey said the motor bike which Tomlinson had borrowed from a friend was stolen. An undisclosed sum of money which was in his possession was also stolen.

Police investigators said they have identified a man who could help in the investigations surrounding Tomlinson's death. They did not give details.

With the death of Tomlinson, the number of people who have been murdered in Spanish Town this year has reached 64, seven less than the 71 reported cases for the corresponding period of January 1 to April 28, 2005.

THE bloodletting continued in Spanish Town yesterday with the shooting death of two men in separate incidents. Police said one of the victims was a member of the notorious One Order gang.

In the first incident, Omar Robinson, 25, of Jobs Lane in Spanish Town, was shot dead at about 11:45 am while he was having a conversation with persons sitting in an open lot in the community.

Police said Robinson was killed by a gunman who was among a group of armed men who drove up in a white Toyota Corolla motor car. He received several shots to the right side of his chest and abdomen.

It was, however, the shooting death of alleged One Order gang member Louis Thomas, alias 'High House', that forced some business operators to pull their shutters early in fear of an outbreak of violence in the old capital.

Thomas, the police reported, was sitting outside the Mother's fast food restaurant at the corner of French and Wellington streets when two men on foot approached him and shot him all over his body.

Two bystanders who were shot and injured in the attack were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital for treatment.

Extortionists strike?

It is widely circulated in some circles in and around Spanish Town that Cancara top employee, Arthur Smith, was killed because he resisted demands from extortionists linked to the Clansman gang.

Investigators found 21 spent shells on the death scene after the deceased was ambushed and shot several times.

According to sources, Clansman gangsters, whose operatives worked as security personnel at the Salt Pond sewage complex, tried to muscle their way on the payroll at the Portmore shopping complex being built in the vicinity of the Hundred Man Police Station. Cancara manages both projects. Sources disclosed that the gangsters, who offered to supply marl to the Wedgewood Housing Scheme and Portmore, were turned down because the rates were uncompetitive. According to sources, when Smith resisted the attempts he was targeted. However, Cancara’s managing director, Junior Lincoln, is not aware that extortionists killed his “top builder”.

“We have no experience of extortionists demanding money from our employees,” he told the Sunday Herald on Friday.

As a supporter of the Boys Town Football Club, Lincoln said the company was committed to community building and that partisan political support was not a part of the company’s policy. Lincoln said he was not aware of members of any gang member being employed to his company.

Smith’s death, Lincoln said, was a great loss to his company. He said he would leave no stone unturned until his killers were captured.

“Smith was very close to me. He joined the company as a young man and he grew. His death is a personal loss,” Lincoln said.

The contractor was shot killed execution style at his gate at the Angels Housing Scheme on Wednesday morning.

Hope and inspiration for Balcombe Drive

Sunday's visit by some senior police officials to the terror-stricken community of Balcombe Drive appears to have inspired hope and enthusiasm, into fearful residents.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields says he is heartened by the reception in the tense Waterhouse community.

However its reported that if his pronouncements are anything to go by, he is well aware that it will take more than a visit by high-profiled police officers to stem the blood-letting.

For more than a year, terror and grief have been the constant companions of the people of Balcombe Drive.

Scores have died as turf war spilled blood unrelentingly.

Only weeks ago, the nation shuddered as news surfaced that the vehicle of motorist who was shot, mowed down three children killing one.

DCP Shields and his team ventured into the area last week.

He recalled that empty streets bore testimony of community gripped by raw fear.

But Sunday was a different story.

DCP Shields went into the area again with well known model Nadine Willis and popular entertainer Beenie Man, among others.

DCP Shields congratulated Head of the St. Andrew South, Supt Newton Amos and his team for a 40 per cent reduction in crime in the division.

But he conceded that Balcombe Drive has stubbornly remained a hot spot in the midst of strenuous crime-fighting initiatives.

He stressed that more input is needed from the community to assist crime fighting efforts.

In the meantime, the Member of Parliament for West Central St. Andrew, Andrew Holness is welcoming the visit by the DCP Shields and his team into the PNP stronghold of Balcombe Drive.

He has echoed the sentiments of DCP Shields that the people of the community will have to do more to end the blood shed.

Minister Peter Phillips have noted that crime levels remain High, despite a 21 % reduction in Crime since the start of the year. Last Month a police sergeant was ambushed and shot to death in Ensom City, a residential neighbourhood in volatile Spanish Town, St Catherine, becoming the sixth cop to die this year.

Last year, 13 police officers were murdered.

Crime plan pays off in east Kingston

POLICE IN the Kingston Eastern Division are crediting its 90-day Crime Reduction Action Plan for a significant reduction in homicides there.

Superintendent Assan Thompson said yesterday that 19 murders have been committed in east Kingston communities in the past three months, 31 fewer than the same period last year. "When we launched this plan we wanted to see a 10 per cent reduction in homicides and shootings," Supt. Thompson told The Gleaner yesterday. "Homicides are down 62 per cent and shootings are down by 42 per cent, so we are feeling reasonably good."
Supt. Thompson said that, of the nine divisions in east Kingston, only two remain hostile - Rockfort, a community prone to bursts of gang violence, and Bull Bay.

"All the others, including Franklyn Town, Rollington Town, Mountain View, have seen a major reduction in crime," he said.

Superintendent Thompson, who has been in charge of the Kingston Eastern Police Division since mid-February, said the second phase of its 90-day crime plan started June 2.

FLARE-UPS

Several communities in east Kingston, including Rockfort and Franklin Town, have been rattled by gun violence in 2005. Five persons were murdered in Franklyn Town on the evening of February 11 and early February 12.

Three weeks after those incidents, Delano 'Delly Bop' Waite, who police say was connected to the shootings, was killed by a squad from the Kingston Eastern Division. Police say Waite, 26, was linked to gang violence in the community and had been on their most wanted list.

The lawmen have not escaped the criminal onslaught. In February, residents in McIntyre Villa, commonly known as Dunkirk, set ablaze three police service vehicles to protest the shooting of Donovan Clarke who lived in the area.
