Security guard shot at Bahia Principe demonstration
A security guard is battling for life following a shooting incident at the problem plagued Bahia Principe hotel site in Runaway Bay St. Ann on Monday.
Two of the guards' colleagues are also nursing bullet wounds.
It is understood that the chaos began when workers who have been protesting for more pay, attacked the guards who reportedly tried to quash the protest.
During the altercation the three security guards were beaten and shot.
The protest spilled onto the Discovery Bay main road which was blocked for several hours by the protesting workers.
The workers also tried to prevent the police from entering the site.
Meanwhile, Peoples National Party Caretaker for the Dry Harbour Division of St. Ann, Authur Clementson says the stand off resulted from what he cited as the poor treatment of workers on the project.
He said the situation escalated on Monday morning when workers insisted that they would not allow the company to continue importing cheaper labour from Dominica.
