As soon as the country's GDP affords the tax base to produce and support services in the hospitals comparable to that of developed countries,and have an income base to support the health insurance system of the developed countries, I expect the level of service to be comparable.
Nothing for nothing.
many people expect to go to Jamaica and recieve services for free,in hospitals that is equal to services in the hospitals in the USA that charge US$2,000 pernight,with aditional charges for every other service including bandages.
I am not saying that the hospital should not have appropriate equipment to offer it's services.
I am not saying that the equipment should not be regurly serviced to maintain it's reliable function,but it takes people who must be paid to do all these repairs and service,and it takes money to buy the replacement parts,and sometimes,the taxes is not sufficient to do it. That is why ther is insurance system to pay for hospital services in the USA and many hospitals still go bankrupt every year.

If you can show me a person on this board or any other, who's never made a genuine error in posting something too fast or misspelled, or misunderstood something, then you deserve to be king of the world.

believe it or not i have littl eproblem with spelling and english grammar. it is just that online every type of short cut is acceptable. incidentally i have been online since there was an internet,and have been here ever since.

Prime Minister orders probe into Jubilee

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller yesterday ordered an investigation into the situation at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH), Kingston, following a damning report that the facility was contaminated with roaches and flies, among other things.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Health yesterday said the investigation panel established to probe happenings at the hospital will hold its first meeting on the weekend.

Situation rotten

On Thursday, Dr. Douglas McDonald, senior medical doctor at the VJH, described the situation at the facility as "rotten", pointing to the contamination of the operating theatres with roaches, flies, bird droppings, shortage of linen and nurses, among other things. The insect infestation has reportedly been addressed.

The Health Ministry says it will provide a full response next week to the damning report of the conditions at the largest maternity hospital in the English-speaking Caribbean.

When pressed about the conditions with regards to the roaches at the facility, Dr. Grace Allen-Young, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, proceeded to ask this reporter if she did not have roaches at home, noting that the roach infestation was an environmental issue.

No way I could discern that from his post. I was curious about the point of VJ being quasi public. If he was refering to UWHI, that wasn't clear to me.

I twice asked that he clarify and answer the question but he never did. But hey, this isn't a court of law - doesn't have to expound if he doesn't want to. No worries here.

as yuh sey tings bad a KPH from long long time
...when my father came back to jamaica after medical school he was working at KPH (this is about 57') he was dong a D&amp;C and asked for a glove they told him jus wash your hands...then he ws doing a circumcision and asked for some local..they sey they dont use that here....he only lasted about 6 months there .



but for all that i hear that still if yuh have serious issues is KPH yuh want to go

My husband's grandfather passed away in '03. A terrible battle with cancer. The last weeks and days of his life, he was at KPH quite a bit. Really a sad situation. We had to bring him sheets for his bed - make his bed. Bring him food - feed him the food. Clean him - on &amp; on &amp; on. And believe, if we didn't do it, it wasn't going to get done - or certainly, not daily.

One afternoon, I watched as a nurse moved from bed to bed, patient to patient with some tools and papers and charts on a rolling cart.

One one part of the tray, I saw her with a round short jar with something sticking out of it.

Ladies out there will probably know what I'm talking about when I say this but, I thought it was nail polish remover. They kind where you screw off the top and it's filled with a sponge with a hole in it and it's soaked in nail polish remover. You stick your finger down in it and twist and it cleans off the nail polish.

I'm wondering to myself, why is this nurse going around with nail polish remover?

WRONG.

She went from patient to patient, taking each one's temperature - with 1 (one!) thermometer thhat she'd dip in the solution, put ina patient's mouth, record the temperature, and repeat at the next bed.
