A brave descison... He gave an explanation of why.. one child was falling behind and would have benifit from individual attention...Poltically he was critissed and then it turned out his primary critisiser sent his child over seas..

And I disagree to characterise Jamaica schools as good. the JTA disagrees wioth you. Holness disagrees with you. Seaga disagrees with you..Earl Moxam a journalit .the exam results disagrees with you.. the number of children who have any credible exam results at 16 is abysamally low.. A huge% fail the grade 4 literasy test.. and are delayed till grade 6...Middle class children do ok. Ghetto children do badly, rural children ddo badly..

ok, that has been the case for a while now, everyting a get wuss....but which school system is doing good??

and to home school yr kid i just think is grave dis-advantage, extra tutoring maybe but home school? in jamaica, whey dem have sooo much good schools???

me no get it,

de odder guy deh who send his kid to switzerland is not even as bad, if me did have money, me wudda send my kid deh to, dem have good schools to, besides the exposure dere is priceless,

Jamaicans should be very cautious about &quot;home schooling&quot; of their kids. Nothing is wrong with the idea but Jamaican society is one that puts a lot of authenticity on its unique brand of its &quot;socialisation.. To my way of thinking, there is no substitute for going to a regular public Elementary school It's where the level of interaction with kids from varying backgrounds that ranging from the poorest to the more affluent in any particular region and which is important in our Jamaicanisation..

Our Secondary and High Schools are still comparable to many of their overseas counterparts and do instill the culture to the next level.. Aside from early kindergarten and some locations for private tuition total home schooling in Jamaica would shortchange students of what it means to be truly Jamaican.. The Holnesses has some thinking to do..

that might be tha case if the kids are in regular &quot;public&quot; school but expensive private schools are very popular in Jamaica now so this kind of interaction is not assured.

Rich, you have a point. I guess the interaction at these expensive private schools would most likely foster a sort of elitism among the respective student bodies.. They would still be Jamaicans, but the danger lies in the fact that given time, a mentality of &quot;Us and Them&quot; would develop..

What if the popularity of these &quot;expensive&quot;schools increased to the point that their numbers exceed the &quot;traditional&quot; high schools, what then? - We all know how much of that mentality already exist in Ja. Are we oblivious to the fact that our troubled little island will have another layer of &quot;Super Usses&quot; further removed from the &quot;Dems&quot; ?..
