File on father and son robbery cover up to be sent to DPP
A file on the alleged attempt by a Police Sergeant to cover-up his son's involvement in an armed robbery is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) this week.
Speaking with RJR News Monday morning, Head of the St. Ann Police, Superintendent Ray Palmer, said the file is being prepared and will be submitted to the DPP within the next few days.
Superintendent Palmer says the incident has not affected the morale of personnel in the division but has shown that the police in the parish will not turn a blind eye to criminal activity even if it involves their co-workers.
Sergeant Gilbert McDonald and his son, 18-year-old McGyver McDonald, are behind bars following a shooting incident in Ocho Rios on Saturday night.
The son of the Police Sergeant has been charged with robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and wounding with intent.
His father, who is attached to the Falmouth Police Station, is accused of trying to pervert the course of justice.
Reports are that about 9 o'clock Saturday night, McGyver allegedly shot and injured a licensed firearm holder during a robbery attempt.
It is understood that McGyver was also shot and injured during the struggle.
The policeman allegedly took his injured son to the St. Ann's Bay Hospital where he was confronted by colleagues from the Ocho Rios Police Station.
The Police Sergeant was arrested when he attempted to hide the gun which his son had reportedly stolen from the licensed firearm holder.
It is also reported that Sergeant McDonald resisted attempts by the police to apprehend him.
