The thing that struck me most about Macondo was not the spill, it was the fact that BP went out side its company for help... They did go to the usual sources but they also went to Brazil.. I recall that congress men made the comment that did not the US have experts why duid they have to go to Brazil for an expert.

The new facility, which opened its doors on Wednesday in the Dhahran Techno-Valley, will help Saudi Arabia in its push into new frontiers of energy production.
Aramco has been looking to ramp up development of its natural gas resources and over the past two years has made a concerted effort to explore for more unconventional sources such as shale gas.
"Baker Hughes has made massive technological advances in unconventional resources, and as a result we have completely redefined the baseline," Baker Hughes chief executive Martin Craighead said in a release. "We recognise that the key to success and performance in unconventionals lies in the decisions made in the early phases of development."
The Dhahran facility will offer research opportunities in areas ranging from petrophysics, drilling, geomechanics, fluids and production technology.
It will add to Baker Hughes' existing infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, which also includes a drill-bit manufacturing plant that opened last year and a 100,000-square-metre operations centre that opened in 2010.
