Chen-Young did not influence decision - Hylton

Solicitor General Michael Hylton Q.C., says his request for his name to be withdrawn as a candidate for the position of Chief Justice, was in no way influenced by allegations being made by Dr. Paul Chen-Young, former chairman of the Eagle Group.
Judgment in the sum of $1.2 billion was awarded against Dr. Chen-Young in May last year following a civil suit brought by Eagle Merchant Bank and Crown Eagle Life for breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract and negligence.
Several allegations
Dr. Chen-Young has recently raised several allegations including impropriety against the Solicitor General who represented the claimants and Justice Roy Anderson, who made the award.
The Government took control of the Eagle group in March 1996 for $1, at th of the financial sector meltdown.
The Government recently asked the courts in Florida to recognise the judgment so that it be able to enforce the judgment against Dr. Chen Young's assets in that state. The assets were frozen earlier this year, but the freeze was subsequently lifted.
Dr. Chen-Young had objected to his assets in Florida being frozen and contended that the judgment should not be recognised because it was "rendered under a system which did not provide an impartial tribunal and which did not comply with the requirements for due process.
