Mi love Jamaica........so

Mi haffi mention the double standards mi see down there. Mi grow a jamaica but since my return, uptown get better, airport getting a face lift but down town has gotten much much worse. I didn't take the tourist pictures this time round becaw of the superficial road maintenance I saw. Airport road and stadium road pretty and smood. People down town really sufferaring and many jamaicans are so used to seeing and ignoring the town town sufferation and violence they have mastered the art of doing their business down town while pretending that part of jamaica is another country.

Meanwhile crime is high becaw nuff people a suffa. Many posh areas the stush people dem have to drive pass/through ghetto areas to get to their palaces. Does anyone see what is wrong with this picture? I am surprised di stush people dem nuh commission new road to be built to by pass ghetto areas on route to their mansions.

Jamaicas "independence" came about through a united jamaica as one. Jamaicas down fall was/is as a result of us stop being our brothers keeper. Everyman fi demself and selfishness thrives. Just the way the corrupt politicians on three sides of the political spectrum like it.

jamaican independence did not come about as a result of any unity of either actions or even belief.
The referendum that resulted in independence was just over 50% in favour and almost 50% against. the majority of those against were the large land owners,merchant and business class. many took on english citizenship and their offspring are English. They are still incharge of the economy and by the use of the plantation strategy, they use the political parties as their tools of control.
The parties do what ever these plantocrats order,and they just go to the people as a means of rubber tamp just to make it seem like democrasy is at work.

I agree, I knew about the 50/50 divide but what I meant was that people on a whole was more united and had a clearer vision of where they wanted to go. It was a split down the line politically but at least the passion was their to make jamaica a better more prosperous place to live despsite the split.

As you rightly mentioned the private sector plays a huge part - they are the puppet master and the government the puppets - the people the pawn to be offered up as sacrifice to appease the demons.

The picture you painted of driving through rich and poor sections of Jamaica merely reflect the growing chasm between rich and poor that is the natural product of a capitalist economy whereunder money goes to money. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
It is the basis of capitalism.

You can either change to socialism and redistribute the available money on a more equitable fashion OR make bandage-on-a -cancer reforms that give a few dollars to the poor and avert open revolution or maintain the status quo whaich is what is happening in the U.S. and apparently Jamaica.

The flame is steady under the social pressure cooker and the pressure is steadily building.

In Jamaica as in the U.S., there is no majority for change and things will have to get much worse for the poor in terms of not having enough and much more uncomfortable for the rich in untenable social conditions before changes are made or the lid blows off.
