Yes, been born a British subject, still does not qualify him to contest and elections,one have to reside in the Country for no less than one year. This did not happen, he was in the Country maybe 5 minutes when brother Michael just pick him, put him in a seat and say run it. Give him Minister too,but as faith would have it he drink himself out of Parliament

You still fon't get the fact that the constitution say getting it "by his own ation'.
He did not aquire citizenship by his action,that is a very siginficant difference,or the constitution would not have spelled it out.

The Jamaican passport clearly states: "Persons born in foreign countries of Jamaican parents or born in Jamaica of foreign parents, persons married to foreign nationals as well as persons who have acquired Jamaican citizenship by natural-isation or registration may possess a foreign nationality, in addition to Jamaica citizenship."

Well what about Jamaican citizens, born in Jamaica who naturalize in the US? One has to take a declaration that does not appear to be optional during US naturalization that in effect says that you absolutely and entirely renounce all allegiance to a foreign state to which you had been a citizen before. Further one has to promise to defend and support the US constitution and bear arms if necessary.

I understand that there may be a difference between US and the Common wealth because in the Commonwealth countries like Canada the allegiance is made to the Queen who is also head of state in Jamaica, if I'm understanding the arguments correctly.

I find it interesting that they encourage Jamaicans living in the US to naturalize so they can vote for policies that favor the Caribbean and now they seem to be turning it around and biting back and say you may not have all the rights of Jamaican citizen if you take the US oath of allegiance.

IMO if you swear in as Jamaican MP then that should trump any citizenship/allegiance issues for dual citizens because I believe you are taking an oath under Jamaican law to uphold the laws of Jamaica during the tenure as MP.
