Bush congratulates Golding

WASHINGTON, DC, USA (AP) - President George W Bush called Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding yesterday to congratulate the people of Jamaica on a successful election and Golding on his party's victory, the White House said.
The two leaders discussed the long and close ties between the United States and Jamaica, and they committed to strengthening the partnership, said Gordon Johndroe, spokesman for Bush's National Security Committee.
He said Bush also reiterated his interest in helping Jamaica and other Caribbean nations address the challenges they confront.
Golding, a veteran parliamentarian who brought the Labour Party back to power on September 3 after 18 years in opposition, was sworn in as prime minister on Tuesday.
