The overall figure shows that as of Friday morning 1,200 persons had been murdered in Jamaica since January. </div></div>
Sheesh... What's the general consensus - the police cannot manage, get international help/expertise, time for some specialized 'DELTA' force? </div></div>
To do what? </div></div>
That sounds like Peter Phillips` policy of extreme and resolute measures to fight crime.
Combative measures wont work.
We need to understand what it is that makes crime such a `crowd puller`. Why does one go into a life of crime?
Why so many?
Lots of people seem to be benefitting.
Next step is we need to cease denying that things are bad as many would like to pretend.
Then rather than find the guns, we need to find why it is that there is this great need for guns.
Once we can stem the need for guns and stifle the need for crime, we can do so by offering better opportunities to the large magnitude of youngsters who are first embroiled in crime.
If there are no better opportunities for potential criminals to gravitate to than towards crime, then why would they want to live decent honest lives? </div></div>
Is all of that realistic? Really; while all the studies are going on to find out why all this is taking place, J'cans just sit idly by while almost 100 people per month lose their lives? There certainly has to be some short-term solution(s) while trying to figure out long-term ones.
