I think the death penalty is necessary to combat the rampant evil in this world. Eye for and eye won't leave us all blind, just they evil ones. Good people won't need their eyes poked will they?

There should be no right to life for those who take a life by unjust means. An accident is an accident and murder is murder. I think its rather clear in most cases. I think we should bring back public executions and hang people in the town square again.

I think the sentence should fit the crime and you can call it retribution or plain old revenge if you want to but the fact is that murder, rape and thievery still take place in what we like to call a civilized world. Civilized people don't murder each other. We're not yet civilized in a world where children are the greatest victims of the most horrid crimes. It is up to the law abiding good people of this world to force civility amongst the criminals with stricter enforcement of laws and harsher punishments for law breakers.

Sounds like an oxymoron but it's the only way to end evil. We, the good people must rid ourselves of those the bad ones.

Why public execution of sentences? So that future or potential criminals can see the repercussions of criminal actions before they commit a crime. What better deterrent to rape then to watch a rapist be castrated on the steps of City Hall as a field trip in for High School students?

How many people really understand what happens to murderers or rapists? Only the criminals know and by then its to late, they are already criminals. Better a man knows what happens to a rapist before he rapes.

Call me cold and call me heartless but I don't belive any person has a right to life when they do things like rape or kill children. They forfeited that right when they made the decision to steal anothers life. I have no obligation to man or god that forces me to support the heathens of this world. Kill them all and let God sort them out was the motto for the US Marines in Vietnam. I propose we take the same position with murderers and child rapists, the two most heinous of crimes.

Maybe then on day we can say that after a long battle the world has become a civilized place where people are no longer killed because we have killed those who kill for unjust reasons.

I realize how screwed up this sounds but its my opinion. the only way to peace in this world is for the good folks to fight the good fight and rid ourselves of evil through war and violence if necessary. No pain no gain. Some of the best of us must die on order for the rest to learn to live.

Had I been at there I might have gotten it right the first time and we would not be holding this conversation in another life but we are.

It may sound archaic and cruel to some but this is not a civilized world and when dealing with uncivilized people it may require uncivilized actions to achieve a state of civility.

I'll inject I have no faith in a God to save us from destroying ourselves. I simply abide by some guidelines set in those 10 commandments as should the rest of the world.

the bible is a curse on humanity. its a vile disgusting book about control that distorts history and the reality of our existence to billions of brainwashed idiots, it oppresses women and those of a different nature but there is much to be learned from the tools of the enemy and the 10 commandments offer some great guidelines on living a good life.

It's the bible. It's the single most important literary work in the history of man kind. It is more powerful than the Koran and the Magna Carta combined with influence on every living creature on earth. Intelligent people can find both beauty and misery in it.

The Bible and it's followers preach one thing and many times over the course of history have done another in the name of their God and his book. Consider how much of this book is supposed to be the actual word of God (the Supreme Intellect) and you realize its men who made these atrocities.

The words attributed to God are worth listening too. The words of men are suspect until you understand their reason. When you have lived as blessed a life as I have you begin to realize someone has been there for you but his message is distorted by the noise of men.

I believe the Bible was written by men to help bring about civilization to the masses and tame mans savage nature but it's been distorted over time and it's power is now used to control the world and thats whats vile and disgusting to me. I'm probably more disgusted by religions and "the church" then the actual book, although it's stuffed with oppressive opinions.

The Bible is often eloquent and loaded with some of the best writings any man has ever written but its been tainted by evildoers and used for personal gain. Why is the church so wealthy when its people are so hungry?

The Bible was also necessary for mankind to achieve the level of civilization we have thus far. can you imagine how wild men were with no belief system? The Bible put fear of hell in man and started the intellectual evolution of man as we began to care about life and the world around us. Sadly the evildoers and their greedy ways are taking us off the track that should have followed.

As with anyone or anything in this world some things about the Bible are good and others are bad. Some folks are able to discern what is good and others practice blind faith. It is my opinion there is much to be learned from the bible but it requires intellect to decipher whats is god like and what is man made ignorance.

Well, some of the good people had their eyes "poked" in the first place. Then they got mad and poked the bad people in their eyes, and then they both had 'poked' eyes.

Don't stop there; you should get the government to assign someone to rape the convicted rapist. That should teach him a lesson.

Would you send your children on such a field trip? What does that say about you despite your much touted "goodness" and "civility?" Does a society have to sink to this level of brutality to become civil? This would be a most cruel irony indeed.

And the other question is: why do you think that crime would be deterred by these public spectacles? The hard truth is that the death penalty does not deter murder - first or second degree. Obviously, it does not deter second-degree murders; that crime took place when reason was suspended and the person convicted would not receive the death penalty anyway, so there is no debate here. Now, do you think that people who have gone through the trouble to plan a murder, plotted elaborate ways to avoid detection, will be deterred by the death penalty? We know it won't deter suicide bombers, for example. But even if deterence was shown to work, from a utilitarian perspective, society may be prepared to execute even the innocent, if it can be shown that their execution will deter murders. In this case, justice would have abandoned the idea of justice for more consequentialist considerations.

Yes, the philosphy that got some people neo-conned into war. I see you have been reading their manual. You are right; it's really screwed up. But don't you see that you will be engaging in, as Gore Vidal put it, "perpetual war for perpetual peace."

I would LOL right here but a terrible rape took place here first day and it is on my mind. Yes I would not like to see AW in charge of any weapon other than a toothpick.
