PBC begins broadcast testing in Parliament
Wednesday, 07 November 2007
After 10 years in the making, the Public Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) on Tuesday kick started broadcast testing in Parliament.
Chief Executive Officer of the PBC, Leighton Thomas, told the RJR News Centre that this is being done to iron out the kinks ahead of next month's official start.
"Our mandate is to carry parliamentary procedures, the Senate, things really of that nature and things of government nature as well as entertainment, whether news or sports. We are going to be coming on air fulltime in December," he said.
"We are currently running a 24 hour test, which is now running on most cable operators in Kinston, St. Andrew area. That should continue until December when we are fully prepared. Television has preceded the radio which will con on stream early next year," he added.
A bill which was passed 10 years ago ushered the PBC into existence.
Parliament mandated that the Corporation provide broadcasting services of high quality in areas of education, artistic expression, news, parliamentary affairs and culture.
