<span style='font-size: 14pt'>Charge Michael Pryce's attacker</span>
Wednesday, November 28, 2007
Dear Editor,
Your Daily Observer edition of Tuesday, November 20, 2007 carried a news story stating that CVM television's senior news reporter Mr Michael Pryce was physically attacked and hit in his left eye by a man outside the entrance to the nomination centre for South St Catherine on Nomination Day.
According to the Observer, Mr Pryce was passing a crowd of People's National Party (PNP) supporters at the gate to the Spanish Town Village Plaza while carrying out a CVM news assignment when he was confronted by an alleged PNP supporter.

During the ensuing argument, the said PNP supporter hit Mr Pryce in the left eye and verbally abused him. Thereafter, Mr Pryce was rescued from this abusive PNP man by South Central St Catherine Member of Parliament Sharon Hay-Webster and the police.
This shameful, despicable and outrageous attack by this PNP supporter on Mr Pryce needs to be expeditiously condemned by the Leader of the Opposition and PNP President Portia Simpson Miller. She needs to publicly issue an apology to him for this shameful assault on this eminent member of the media.
It is imperative that the St Catherine Police Department find this brazen young man who wantonly attacked this hard-working, respectable and erudite reporter, charge him and bring him before the courts.
This unwarranted and disgraceful attack by this imbecile, lawless and arrogant PNP supporter in St Catherine must be condemned by all decent citizens and the law must take its course in this unfortunate incident. Why is Opposition Leader Simpson Miller and the PNP hierarchy so silent on this disgusting incident?
Frankly speaking, this disgraceful incident reflects very badly on the PNP and its president Portia Simpson Miller.
The media must be allowed at all times to carry out its important functions, responsibilities and duties without being hindered in any way whatsoever and therefore, an attack on one journalist is an attack on all journalists, if you will.
Mr Pryce has consistently been a highly-responsible, honest and professional journalist, therefore, this scandalous physical attack on him greatly disturbs me. It is disgraceful that at this stage in our history such a nasty incident could have occurred. Mr Pryce could have lost his eye or life stemming from this reprehensible incident and the police must take speedy action against the man who assaulted this reporter.
