A suspect in the killing of Const. Valentino Chambers was shot dead yesterday on Luke Lane in downtown Kingston.

Dead is Fredrick Johnson, also called 'Murphy', 19, of a Hannah Town address. Two other men were shot and injured during the shooting spree. They have been identified as Dale Bailey, 19, also of a Hannah Town address, and Lincoln Forbes of a Barbican address.

According to police reports, Johnson and Bailey were riding a bicycle on Luke Lane about 11:15 a.m., when they were attacked by two men on foot who fired shots at them.

Johnson was hit all over his body and pronounced dead at the scene, while Bailey and Forbes, who were working at a nearby cabinet shop, were taken to hospital.

<span style='font-size: 14pt'>Johnson's death came one day after the slaying of Constable Chambers.</span>

Lost control of the vehicle

On Thursday morning, Constable Chambers was driving on his way to work along Brewery Road when, on reaching Slipe Pen Road, he was fired on by a group of men carrying high-powered rifles. He returned the fire but lost control of the vehicle which crashed into a wall. Constable Chambers received gunshot wounds all over his body. His firearm was also stolen from him.

How convenient,the alleged cop killer is himself shot dead shortly after the murder,methinks there is foul play afoot.

Well one of the problems with killing police personnel is that it brings lots of heat.
So it could be they same gang that killed the cop could have eliminated the shooter(s) to turn off the heat. As well it could be the gang that the cop was reputed to be a member of.

Either way the Agents of the State is part and parcel of the criminality.

Up to yesterday, investigators were still searching for a motive behind the daylight murder of Assistant Commissioner of Police Gilbert Kameka, the highest ranking member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) killed in office to date.

Kameka’s colleague and classmate, Superintendent Carlton Wilson, recalled that ACP Kameka, who was studying for a Masters degree, was due to meet with members of his study group at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. But that was not to be.

<span style='font-size: 14pt'>“He spoke with a member (of the study group) at approximately 12.30 p.m. (on Friday) and was on his cell phone to another colleague, Senior Superintendent Leon Rose, when he was killed,” Superintendent Wilson said.</span>

ACP Kameka, he recalled, recorded straight A’s throughout the Masters course and was due to graduate in the academic year 2008/09. Among accelerated promoted officers, ACP Kameka’s colleagues described him as being “among the brightest in the organisation”.

“This was a man who was a thinker, who was not afraid to think outside of the box,” Superintendent Wilson said.

Early indication was that ACP Kameka may have walked into a trap, but investigators could not say who were the persons believed to have been behind it.

However, the account given by the deceased’s cop’s female companion has fueled suspicion that the 28-year veteran may have been trapped by his killers.

<span style='font-size: 17pt'>The woman, who is in her 20s, remains in police custody and up to yesterday was still being interrogated about the killing which shocked residents of Shamrock district in the hills of Irish Town, St. Andrew.</span>

The woman told investigators that she was at home with friends when ACP Kameka visited her. After a brief exchange with him, she reportedly left with the friends to a nearby bus stop.

She said on her way back, three masked men in a dark coloured Corolla station wagon motorcar accosted her. The men took her back to house about 20 metres away. From her accounts, upon arrival at the house, one of the gunmen promptly opened fire, hitting ACP Kameka twice. He received one bullet wound to the chest and another to the lower abdomen. The gunmen ran out of the house with the 48-year-old police officer’s semi-automatic pistol and sped away, leaving the woman unharmed.

But investigators have been skeptical about the woman’s account, and are searching for answers to several questions arising from her version of the shooting. They wondered, for example, if their colleague was known to the killers and whether he was the intended target. They also theorise that the witness may have known the killers, hence the reason why they wore masks. They were also suspicious that the eyewitness was not harmed.

<u>Credible motive</u>

However, when questioned by the Sunday Herald, ACP Les Green, head of the Major Investigation Team (MIT), which is spearheading the investigation, said ACP Kameka’s female companion was not now a suspect, but was a material witness in the case and was assisting the police with their investigations.

Green confirmed reports reaching the Sunday Herald that the woman would be at risk if she were to return to Shamrock district.

However, he dismissed suggestions that the motive for the cop’s killing was a love triangle, explaining that the most credible motive would be robbery, since the firearm was stolen.

The M.I.T. boss said the police were getting credible information on the murders of both ACP Kameka and police constable Valentino Chambers of the Hannah Town Police Station, who was killed by gunmen hours earlier on Slipe Pen Road in Kingston.

ACP Kameka’s silver Toyota Rav 4 sports utility vehicle, which was parked on the road in close proximity to the death house, was taken away by the police and is being dusted for fingerprints and other forensic evidence. A post-mortem examination of the lawman’s body was carried out yesterday, but up to news time, no details were forthcoming.
