State Minister in the Ministry of Housing Everard Warmington, on Sunday issued a warning to residents seeking hurricane relief.

Mr. Warmington said for persons in sections of St. Catherine to be qualified for the assistance, they MUST go out and cast their ballots in the local government polls on Wednesday.

Addressing party supporters on the campaign trail in Old Harbour Bay, Mr. Warmington who is the Member of Parliament, said he had advised Labour Minister Pearnel Charles, to withhold the cheques until after the election.

So those who don't vote are not in need of the cheques?
I wonder who they are supposed to vote for?
Like if they are now being threatened with that,I wonder what will happen if they vote for the wrong candidate!
As I said, back to the good old days.

I heard a clip of him and he never said who don't vote will not get a check. He did say the checks dispersion would be suspended until after the Elections.

Warr-ington is always doing some bone headed stuff, but I have been listening to some PNP MPs complaining about checks that were been handed out. They claimed it was all been done in a Parisian manner.

Here my thinking maybe Warmington has point, all the handouts should have been suspended until after the elections.

<span style='font-size: 17pt'>St. Thomas PNP Candidates say politics involved in the distribution of relief</span>

Political tension heightened in Western St. Thomas, as People's National Party (PNP) candidates cried foul, over the distribution of Hurricane Dean relief housing supplies in the area.

The irate candidates from all divisions in the parish, Monday convened a press conference at the party's headquarters to air their grouses.

In a letter sent to Prime Minister Bruce Golding late last week, the candidates said contrary to an announcement made by the Prime Minister on November 11, they have not received any official list of persons slated to receive benefits.

They claim that PNP supporters in some divisions who were severely affected have received no assistance while JLP supporters have been given benefits.

The PNP candidates are calling for the distribution process to be halted immediately.

They also want a full investigation of the programme and are calling for oversight authority to be granted to the Western St Thomas Minister's Fraternal to ensure equity in the distribution process.

Deputy Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) James Robertson, is adamant that there is no truth to reports that housing assistance for persons affected by Hurricane Dean in St Thomas is being distributed along party lines.

He said the accusations are baseless as the names of those who are to receive assistance, were recorded by the representatives from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and personnel from the Jamaica Defense Force, before September 3.

Mr. Robertson said no politics is being played in the distribution process, but suggested that JLP supporters are the ones not receiving the relief.

One senior Government Minister has rushed to diffuse a potentially explosive comment attributed to Member of Parliament for South West St. Catherine, Everard Warmington.

Many in political circles were left staggering by Mr. Warmington's address to Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters in Old Harbour, St. Catherine on Sunday.

Mr. Warmington declared that beneficiaries in the hurricane relief programme will not receive their cheques until they cast their ballots on Wednesday.

He said he had instructed Labour Minister Pearnel Charles, to hold the cheques until after the election.

But Mr. Charles moved swiftly to distance himself and the Government from the statement.

He said anyone who suffered from the effects of Hurricane Dean, whether People's National Party (PNP) or JLP supporter would receive a benefit.

Mr. Charles said the withholding of cheques from anyone for political reasons would never happen.
