An alleged gunman is dead while a policeman is being treated for wounds following a shoot-out at a supermarket in Sheffield, Westmoreland Tuesday night.
The owner of the supermarket was injured in the crossfire.
Dead is 27-year-old Kevin Clarke otherwise called "Quell" of Big Bridge, Westmoreland.
Sheffield was like the Wild West Tuesday night as gunmen ran firing wildly, sending scores of onlookers scampering for safety.
Police report that about seven o'clock a group of men armed with guns drove up to a supermarket in Sheffield.
One man reportedly stayed in the car, another entered the establishment while the other two stood guard outside the door.
The man who entered the store ordered the customers to lie down while demanding money from the proprietor.
However a plain clothes policeman who was also at the establishment challenged the gunman and a shoot out ensued.
During the melee the proprietor, the policeman and Clarke were injured while two of the gunmen escaped on foot and a third sped off in the vehicle.
Clarke was pronounced dead at hospital and a .357 Magnum was reportedly taken from him while the policeman has been admitted in stable condition in hospital. The proprietor's condition is reportedly not serious.
