One of two men arrested last year after Port St. Lucie police stopped the pair as they tried to rob a Port St. Lucie Checkers restaurant in Palm Beach, Florida, was sentenced this week to five years in federal prison.
Omar Robinson, 20, of Jamaica, in October pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce by intimidation or extortion, attempted armed robbery, unlawful possession and use of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal immigrant.
A federal judge on Monday afternoon sentenced Robinson to a total of 60 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
Port St. Lucie police received a tip that two men planned to rob the Checkers in April.
Officers were told the men would wear dark clothing and cover their faces, that they would approach from the back door and that they would come after closing.
Investigators said Robinson and Troy Craddock had firearms and ammunition, rope, masks and dark clothing.
Craddock was sentenced to 101 months in prison last week in connection with the attempted robbery.
