Another utility company has released disappointing financial results.
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) suffered a $306 million loss for its financial year ended December.
This was a major decline from the $1.9 billion profit recorded for 2006.
Despite revenue increasing by $6 billion to $54 billion for the 12 months, the rising cost of fuel placed a damper on the power company's financial performance.
During the year, JPS spent $32.7 billion on fuel compared to $26.6 billion in the previous year.
The utility company also faced increased operating expenses with the cost of maintenance up by $600 million at $5 billion.
News of JPS's financial loss comes just days after another listed utility company Cable and Wireless released poor results.
For the nine months ended December 2007, CWJ suffered a $493 million loss.
In the meantime, Palace Amusement Company Limited has seen a turnaround in its financial performance.
The company reversed the $7 million loss it suffered in July to December 2006 by recording a near $10 million profit during the three month period last year.
Revenue for the six months was also up at $235 million, a near $40 million increase over the figure in 2006.
