Senior detectives have smashed a kidnapping scam and arrested four persons including a police constable from St. Catherine.
The suspects are being interrogated in connection with the staged kidnapping of the policeman's girlfriend.
The four were held between Monday and Tuesday after investigators uncovered the scheme to get the woman's family to pay $500,000 for her safe return.
The policeman and his girlfriend are accused of faking her kidnapping in St. Catherine on Sunday night.
The woman failed to return home as was expected.
Her parents were contacted by phone and told that she had been kidnapped.
They were then told to pay half a million dollars for her release.
Arrangements were made for the money to be paid.
The plot was discovered following a probe by the Organised Crime Investigation Division (OCID).
The constable who is attached to the St. Catherine North Division and girlfriend, whose name is being withheld, were arrested on Monday.
Two other persons were held in connection with the case early Tuesday morning.
Some of the ransom money has been recovered.
The four face various charges including larceny of money.
