I have visited Jamaica before, and I felt awkward every minute I was there. The locals were very intimidating and I wouldn't dare seperate from my travel group the whole time I was there. A group of locals even tried to lead me away from my group saying they knew a place I would enjoy, then was told later by another local what there true intentions were...

It's a beautiful place, but you definetely have to watch your back every minute your there. Travelers beware.

Then they were introduced to the cocaine market, I knew a hustler from those days, who sold a lady aspirin for cocaine, because she desperately wanted it, she actually reported him to the police for selling her aspirin instead of cocaine!!! Now if there is a strong demand, there is going to be a supply...
I am sure a lot of these hustlers were introduced to a lot of things by visitors to the island...I could relate one such bizarre situation, but it's so gross, I do not care to indulge. The Jamaican involved became crazy after...
The gay cruise ships are another point...it's not so much that they are gay, but what they do in public...believe me you do not want children around these people.</span>

I beg to differ, maybe not so God-fearing, or humorous.
When you think of it though, there are a lot of murders, rapes, and general gang-violence, in countries overseas. A lot of crimes go unreported, or are treated as insignificant, because of the person(s) involved.

I can understand feeling awkward in a strange place; I remember getting odd looks from the locals in Bloomington, IN on the university campus. No doubt those same locals would be very ill at ease with the locals in JA. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whatever.gif[/img]

True,I think most white people in particular find it difficult in situations where *they* are the minority.

I have been to so many places where I am the only black person that I think I`ve developed an inbuilt coping mechanism for getting odd looks.
