I'm getting a weird Firefox message!

Yesterday the power got knocked out and it causd a whole lot of problems with my Linkseys. I go that straightenend out on both computers but I am getting a weird message from Firefox that I have never seen before. I am assuming it has to do with the current knock out.

First I get a brwser support pop up telling me Firefox was uninstalled from this computer but it is till here. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70456-eyebrows.gif[/img] I just click on the X to get rid of that.

Then I get another pop up dialouge box

The message in the dialouge box says... browser support Firefox 2.0.0.1.4 in C:Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\was dected. To use Password Bank with this browser, a support module needs to be installed. Install now? Then I have a choice of yes or no.

I keep telling it no and it won't go away. I have no clue what this is but I am afraid to say yes with all the trojans and such going around although this is a new compuer and has virus protection.

You habe a trojan that might habe been activated when your system went down. It seem to be one of those that take advantage of machines with more than one browsers. It is trying to add somthing to the firefox browser,but needs authiorization that you did not enable. so it 's strategy is to annoy you to the point where you do it just to get on with your surfing. don't do it and better yet, get rid of the trojan.

Thanks J Kid and Dr. Dudd. I was afraid this was true. It is annoying to heck! I will work on this after I have coffee and report back! Heck, I am on firefox and this thing is telling me it is uninstalled! right now!

IM, try going to "add/remove programs" and see if you can remove "Password Bank" (and anything associated with it)

Since it is asking you to install this 'Password Bank' program - and it is not yet installed, i don't think it wil be in your "remove programs" list - but you should look anyway.

You can also go to <span style="color: #3333FF">START - Search - for files or folders </span>-- and type in "password bank" (include the quote marks). It will find anything on your hard drive called by that name. Delete anything it finds, then....

run SpyBot, AdAware, Norton AntiVirus and/or whatever other hard drive scrubber you have- to remove any remnants/cookies, etc. Personally I run them ALL each time, cause each program can find different bad stuff.

but even if it doesn't "find" anything -- run SpyBot, AdAware, etc anyway to remove cookies, browser hijackers, etc. This whole thing may be due to either a cookie or a hijacker that sole purpose is to mess with your browser.

maybe once you remove the cookie/hijacker/trojan, whatever it is - it will STOP tryna make you say "yes" to installing de ting.

Also as a matter of routine I would also do <span style="color: #000099">START - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup.</span> check the little boxes for temporary internet files, recycle bin, temporary files -(Don't mess with the "office setup files", you need to keep those)

and hit OK. This will clean up junk on your hard drive - and should be done every time you use the machine!

your system is affected with trojans and adwares. kindly get one good anti-trojan and adware removal program. do not download it from the free download sites as it wont affect it. you should get one licensed version, run the update and then run the virus scan. your new PS will noe be harmed in any way.
