I need desperate HELP with Excel 2007!

When you select individual cells with CTRL+mouse click; How do you get each cell to be HIGHLIGHTED just like it did in ALL previous version of MS Office (2003, 2000, etc)? The only things being highlighted in 2007 version, are the end borders of the row where each cell is located.

It is very difficult to look back and see all the individual cells that you just selected, because the NEW 2007 MS Office no longer perform this action by default. \o/

I agree the new look of the office suite of programs is very hard for an old girl like me to learn! However I am able to select a call and drag and highlight the surrounding cells as in previous editions of Excel. Maybe I am miss reading your question but perhaps it is something with your settings?

If that is the case, good luck navigating the toolbar options!

1) Click the Microsoft Office button in the upper right hand corner of the pag to open the drop down menu.


2) Click on the Excel Options located at the bottom of the menu to bring up the Excel Options dialog box.

Dragging to highlight sequential cells is not a problem (that is same as Shift+click, that works. The issue is, for example, if you wanted to select every other cell (in other words, have blank cells in between the selected ones).

Pepper, I have added here the older 2003 excel screen, compared to the newer 2007 excel screen, so that you can better see what I mean. Look at the (CTRL+mouse click) blue selected fields present in one but not the other:

Me tink yuh need glasses. I can see the highlighted cells. The shading is not a dark as in 2003, but it is still there.

Bway Peppa, yuh statement had mi questioning mi sanity. Mi know sey mi slightly cracked, but mi neva did tink sey mi crazy (well not in di true sense).

Mi also kno sey mi can read very well without glasses, soh mi tek dem off, an still noh si nutten.

Well ah taught about it ah bit. Soh mi bend dung an ah look. Mi sey wait!!!!!!!!!!.......... Den mi stood up an look again at about a 30 degree angle. Mi sey, ah whe di rahtid dis!!!!!!!!!!

Yuh right, it deh deh, but di ting soh faint, not even Superman could ah si it. It almost invisible.

Anyhow, since mi noh waa stoop dung or stan up fi duh mi wuk, mi decide fi adjust mi screen contrast, way below whe mi really like ie, an dat helped fi si di shading a likkle bit betta. Mi also went into mi system screen setting an made di document panel ah slightly dirty-white, instead of a clean bright white look (dis start fi sound more like a detergent commercial ).

Mi went an did som further research pan di matter, an sure enough, di dyam Microsoft people dem knew about di problem an haven't done nutten bout it all dis time. It seems, mi ah noh di ongle wan whe complain bout ie.

Anyway Peppa-Pot, tanks fi helping lead mi inna di right direction, mi really appreciate it. Mi 2007 Office clerical skills just got ah little bit betta, along wid mi illusion ah mi sanity, now dat mi can si di light, so tuh speak. Also BoundBrook, thanks fi trying. At least yuh neva ova deh ah stan up an ah snicker like di wan missa Dahjah.

Mi com ah wuk look pan di pictures dem inna di post, Guess wha? Mi can see di highlighting pan di 2007 Excel sheet using mi wuk laptop. Dis really proves dat, not all monitors are created equal. Anyway, MS still sucks!
