Mi a try reinstall XP but the CD/DVD rom nah read de cd. Is not my computer so mi nuh know what really a gwan.

This may sound like a stupid question but did you try restarting your machine with the CD loaded inside? -

Assuming that you did that already...If you are daring, and knowledgeable, try checking the BIOS of the computer to see if it recognises the CD/DVD drive, and as to what settings are recorded for this drive...Some computer's allow access to the BIOS mode by requiring you to press the <span style="font-family: 'Book Antiqua'"><span style="font-weight: bold">DELETE</span></span> key, while the computer is booting-up. Otherwise check the computer's manual.

Not stupid at all. I actually did it twice and it didn't work. I just think the drive isn't working.Comment

Yeah, the BIOS, i've messed with that before but just can't remember how to get into it so I'll try pressing DELETE. I got somewhere with F12 but I didn't see "Boot Order" or anything like that. On my computer I have HD001 or somm like that as options.
I'm running AVAST (antivirus) so when it's done I will try a ting again.

It's not reading at all. Not reading audio CD, software CD, nor DVD.
Could a virus mess with that sorta thing? Does checking to make sure the driver is in place help the situation?Comment

<span style="color: #660000">If the computer's hard-drive has no Operating System on it, then the only place there could be a virus would be in the BIOS...which means you gots <span style="font-size: 14pt">BIG</span> problems.
If the drive isn't reading from any other CD or DVD, then it's more likely that the CD drive is the problem. Assuming that the computer recognizes the drive, from what you see in the BIOS, then it must be the drive giving trouble.
I don't think Microsoft is in the habit of allowing people to copy their OS's, this has been so since XP, I think. So copying it to a portable drive isn't likely to happen.
My best suggestion, after all else has failed...toss the drive, or use it for a paper weight, or door-stop, or something.</span>Comment

There are parts of the "innards" of my computer that are now held together with nothing more than duct tape and hair pins (no joke)
. Thats what happens when a man with limited knowledge decides he is going to fix that funny noise coming from inside his computer without taking it to someone who actually knows what they are doing.
But with each "fix it yourself" misadventure comes a heap of self taught knowledge... and cussing!
