Security Software

Can someone explain whether it is worth buying new virus protection at the moment?

I am running Norton Security 2006 and Norton Security 2007 on my laptop and my desktop respectively. I keep my subscription updated religiously.

However, I did purchase Norton Security 2008 recently and now am wondering if it was worth doing so. When I read their website, I cannot get an idea of what the exact difference is between the 2008 version and the older version, especially if one keeps the older versions updated.

I havent taken Security 2008 out of the package yet becuase I dont want to open it if it makes no sense to install it.


Anybody have some insight or can provide sites that give more info on the software than Norton's site?

Well I have never bought one and I don't use one either, except when I building or rebuilding my computer.
Of course I don't share in the office pool-Jokes, read emails except in text format or do a number of things that makes getting a virus or malware easier.

If you do I would recommend buying or getting a trusted an anti-virus/malware program. I don't use them because in the early days it was the best way to slow your computer to a crawl.

I am obligated to have the security software on my computers due to what I do for a living.

with that being said, my question is more about when is it necessary to upgrade your security suite. I am running software that seems to be working fine, so telling the effective difference between Norton Security 2006 and Norton 2008 is kind of what I am trying to determine.

their site doesnt give you a detailed description of what makes the 2008 version better than their previous ones.

besides, how u so anti-social???? no TV, doesnt participate in mass emails.....

You may not need to upgrade the software but you do need to DL and Install the most up to date virus signatures. Used to once upon a Blue Moon, seems like it everyday now!
If you have a commercial version and they do not let you update the virus sigs without plunking down for a new program, that is extortion.

Trust me I used to be more anti-social and the one ot two times that I have gone out of my skin I have paid dearly for it...like recently. So back to hole!

i think i am gonna return the 2008 suite then.

my current versions automatically update with new info. it just dawned on be after purchasing the software that there might not be an discernible difference between the old and new versions as long as you are running virus updates on the older versions.

Yep, just the virus sigs, especially since it is a 2008 version!
