Vista Power Question

Is there anything in the mek up of vista that would not allow a machine to be powered on 24/7?

Have a machine that I need on at all times, unless mi manually shut ie dung.

Monday to Friday it works fine...meaning monday evening mi tell it fi restart, Tuesday maorning mi come in it's still on.

Friday eveing mi tell it fi restart, Monday morning mi come in it's completely shut dung, power off and all.

All the power options are set to never sleep, hibernate and such. Like mi sey di only time it suppose to power off is when mi manualy lick di power button. What's up wid dat??

Oh and BTW, none a mi IT ppl dem caan figa it out.

Do not know but check in the <span style="font-weight: bold">BIOS setup </span>to see if the <span style="font-weight: bold">Power Options </span>are set there as well and might be overriding the setting in the <span style="font-weight: bold">operating system</span>.
The other thing is to find out if there is a power fault,
as in the <span style="font-weight: bold">surge protector </span>is faulting out,
the power is dipping below tolerable levels and so is faulting the <span style="font-weight: bold">surge protector</span>,
in which case the <span style="font-weight: bold">BIOS Setup </span>might be set to keep the Computer Off if there is a fault.
You can set the <span style="font-weight: bold">BIOS</span> to turn the computer on and keep it in the same state it was faulted off, the only problem is if you need a password to get into the <span style="font-weight: bold">Operating System</span>, it will not log on.

TG, mi did check di BIOS aready an neva si nuten fi ovaride di OS. Mi agoh check di surge protector ting. Tanks!

Mi concur wid whe Tuff sey. Is this a server capable unit? They have more options in the BIOS for configuring auto turn-on and turn-off. Disable ALL and see what happens.

Also, make sure the Network Card(s) is not set to go to sleep. What could be happening is one device puts the System to sleep and the Operating System saying no, a dangerous cocktail causing the System to draw too much power thereby faulting the Surge Proctor...just another one of my theories

Did you check th epower control tab and see if it is in a default energy saver state. This will hause the machune to shut down after a long period of inactivity. Not saying toy didn't. I have a a Belkin UPS and it is capable of being programmed to restart all the computer even with password protection. It comes with software thast is loaded on each computer with diffternt options to restart incase of shutdown. You could look at that.

From my weird and whacky bag, here is my list of Hardware problems that might be impossible to detect because they are very rare:

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">Heat:</span> a very powerful video card may not be cooling right and will cause more problems in the summer or cumulatively. That is in 8 hours it might be fine but in 72 it is toast.

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">Heat-Circulation (more common):</span> the power supply fan stops/jams/is dead then the processor/or cards/high speed drives/or PS itself gets hot and throws a fault.

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">Heat-Circulation:</span> not enough fans

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">Fans: </span>too many fans and not big enough of a PS therefore drawing too much power and faulting out the system.

Current Sensing circuit: in either the Power supply (more common) or the Motherboard might be toast thereby drawing/not drawing or sending the incorrect voltage.

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">The facility may not be grounded/earthed properly:</span> faulting the Surge Protector if there is a blip in the voltage supply (such as a voltage spike).

<span style="font-family: 'Arial Black'">The Surge Protector:</span> itself is might not be able to supply the power demanded by the system (since this is the cheapest problem I would try a new one, if the Operating System and BIOS investigation produces no positive results).

I would first take the UPS out of the system and see if things improve. If it does not, then start digging deeper.
