wireless connections on PDAs.

my internet connection has been shegged up for 2 days, so the only way to get internet connection is thru my PDA... still is the only way I can connect currently.

Cricky, it feels like my left arm has been cut off. It is impossible to do worh without the dang thing.

the cable company who provide my internet service, upgraded my modem on Sunday and now my desktop and laptop cannot read the IP address.

the cable company says its a hardware issue or a virus and Dell says they don't know and I should reistall my OP...after I screamed that they are on crack they said it is the cable company's fault no matter what the issue is

and after screwing around with the settings on my laptop, I got a fatal error and can't open it up at all now

so I called my friend and he is going to come and take a look at the modem
because I can only get internet service thru my phone

You did not mention if you have a, wireless router separate from the modem, or you have a combined unit?

sorry, yes I have a wireless router as well. I've tried connecting directly to the modem w/o the router and still no luck.

Now I am getting that base engine filter disabled msg. Even after figuring out what that was and enabling it, the PC still won't connect to the net.

Did you go into the NIC card configuration and have windows try to diagnose and repair the connection?

I finally got connection last night. My friend came in and repaired the issue.

Seems as though the cable technician, when he installed my new modem, decided to turn off certain services in Vista(Base Filter Engine to start) and this caused a cascade effect. The action cause just about every other needed service to shut itself off which disabled my desktop's ability to connect to the net.

So, my friend, one by one, turned on all the disabled services and after 1 1/2hr I was up and running.

I had no virus like the cable company suggested was the cause...I also didnt need to re-install my OS like Dell suggested. I just needed to not let an idiot anywhere near my computers.

I informed the cable company already that they will be giving me a credit for the amount of what my friend will be charging me for his time and service. I asked him to submit a bill for it because the more I thought about it the more angry I was that I needed an outside IT source to fix their damage.
