Network printer question

so I have a printer that i have connected to the router with cat5 cable

i have a laptop which generally has data that I wish to print using the networked printer

i go through all the steps to establish the printer so that laptop can recognize it and it works wonderfully!

....... until I boot up the laptop for use on another day.

what should I be doing to ensure the printer is always recognized by the laptop

the operating system is vista on the laptop if that makes a difference and the printer is an HP all in one sitten

Do you power up or down at any point, without being connected to the router network? It could be disabling di printer when it don't detect di printer presence at those times. I could, bi wrong, but, would you not want to do the opposite, and NOT make it your default, so the system don't look for the printer each time, since you are actually disconnecting from the router network at times? It usually should not make a difference, however, it may be a quirk in the printer driver.

Yuh know why mi ask yuh? I don't think is necessarily anything yuh doing wrong. Mi having all kina problems wid mi laptop and desktop ever since mi install di HP all-in-one printer drivers pan di two ah dem. It jacked up mi capability fi print to other network printers mi hav pan mi laptop at work, especially when in MS Office. Like yuh mi hav re-installed mi other printer drivers and it noh fix di problem. Mi delete di HP driver an di effects of di problem it caused still deh deh. The desktop tek long fi di shutdown dialogue box fi pop-up, after yuh chick, Start > Shutdown or Restart.

Mi ah com tuh di conclusion sey HP's ALL-In-One drivers dem stink, and dat HP eida noh kbow how fi mek all-in-one drivers, or dem know di problem an refuse fi fix ie. Mi hav ah friend wid wan nedda wan ah dem All-In-Wan HP printa models, an like yuh di blastid printer ongle work fi ah while den, yuh haffi re-install di drivers fi get it fi wuk again, an it noh deh pan noh network.

Mi at di point whe mi ah consider just re-staging both di laptop an di desktop clean, fi get rid ah di All-In-Wan after effects, instead ah screwing wid it anymore fi try an isolate di root cause, an get tu di bottom ah di problem. Mi really noh hav di time fi play wid ie anymore. Funny ting is, HP's NON-All-In-One printer drivers wuk great.

Maybe you can give it a static IP or increase the Time Out, just incase it is going to sleep.
Printers are very troublesome; I once had a problem going offline regularly. I found out that my printer did not want to be connected: Modem-Router-Printer, it wanted to be connected Modem-Router-Router-Router-Printer. It still uses DCHP, but now it does not go offline willy-nilly.
