HELP!! Any way to save the data on my drowned wet SIM card?!

Yeah - after 9 or 10 years of owning cellies, I finally did it: accidentally got it soaking wet. AARGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH


I did what's recomended:
Retrieved it immediately
Took it apart a much as I can without damaging
Paper towel dryed it as well as possible
Rinsed it very thoroughly with 91% alcohol
Gently shook it to get the extra wet out, let it drip onto paper towelling a few minutes while I...
Got rice - dry rice - out of the pantry and heated it to hot but not popping hot, buried the open cellie int the hot rice in a small Tuypperware and sealed it air-tight


I'm sure the battery is dead.

It was sitting in the hot coffee spill/puddle for between 5 and 10 minutes. Coffee with sugar and cream. Ugh! dairy fat solids and sugar granules - just about the worst case scenario!!

I left my coffee - 16 ounces of it! - on the kitchen counter, and I also left my cellie... and my eelskin wallet, too. Just cam e in from the cooollllllllld. I'd gone out on my scooter to do some grocery shopping. Had to use the bathroom immediately. THought it'd be okay to leave my stuff for a few seconds.

Nope. The damn cats spilled the coffee right over onto my cellphone and wallet.

The eelskin will stain... but otherwise dry and be okay.

But my phone!

Ihave thousands of numbers in it!!

I can't possibly get them all again, unless I can save the SIM card.


Any other suggestions for me?

Your Sim Card should be okay it have no moving parts. Just dry it off if it got wet and put it in another handset.

It wasn't.

We tried it in three different readers, and two phones. It's dead, jim.

So, I just lost 1000 numbers, just like that: Poof. Gone. Irretrievable.


I bought a <span style="font-weight: bold">Samsung Epix SGH i907</span> the evening before last.

The new phone is not consolation, though, for all of my lost contact numbers. *sigh* Although it does keep me too busy trying to figure it all out, so I don't cry over the lost numbers for too long.

You should have backed up your phone to your PC.

Someone reminded me that I had a very old back-up that's over a year old, maybe closer to two years old... but that only had the numbers transferred from my old Motorola V-whatever flip phone.
Still - it's numbers that I don't have now... so I am diggin thru all the old laptops 'round here to find the right one that has the old Moto back-up on it.

The rest... *shrug*
Like you say - it's a loss. And that's that.


No worries any more. It's well worth paying the $1.99/month for ATT/W to do automatic back-ups for me regularly... and I will also back-up onto my new PC, once it's operational. This old PC isn't able to do that, it still runs Windows 98.

I keep putting off setting up the 'new' PC that I bought a year ago, I hate changing operating systems, and I'm not thrilled with any of 'em newer than my old W98. The darn thing's been sitting in a box underneath my desk, serving as a footrest. You know how many programs I'm gonna have to update before that unit will be functionally operational for me? Mr Witchy is threatening to take a 10-pound sledge hammer to this computer, and force me onto the new one.
