Encryption Software

I am reviewing some of the encryption software that is out there.

Just wanted to see if ppl had any preferences before I select one on my own.

oh, I guess I should specify the type - I am reviewing ones that encrypt your data files, like if you ever lost your laptop then noone can access your data.

Nylah, are you trying to encrypt your whole hard drive, or just certain files you dont want anyone to have access to? Remember there is some risk with encrypting everything.

well, I just want to encrypt accessto my laptop for when I leave the house with it.

It is password protected but say someone steals it from my car, if they know what they are doing they could still get in.

I usually wont leave my laptop in my car, I keep it with me at all times, but you just never know.

There are many good ones out there that will do that. Windows itself can also encrypt when you create the user access account.

I think that is what I want to do.

My IT guy recommended I do so but he isnt around for me to clarify.

I was reading that the Windows one isnt good because a hacker can still access thru the Registry? If that makes no sense forgive me cause I dont quite recall the proper wording.

Like I said, all of my PC's are password protected and I create multiple users so that no one needs to be under my user account to surf the net, etc.

But Mr Nerds on Site said that isnt strong enough given the data I carry around with me, and that I should get an encyrption software on my laptop to be better protected.

most of the software I have seen, is about protecting keystrokes and passwords while on the net but that isnt what I need.

He is correct. All they really need to do is pull your HD and leave. Do a G-search on &quot;hard drive encryption&quot;.
