USB 2.0 Driver

Is me again. Mi a try install a program from the portable drive 120GB to my desktop. Everytime mi plug it in via USB the pc freezes up. My 512 MB stick works but just that the WD Passport drive won't.

I checked here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/329632 but to no avail. please.

What is the Model # and what OS?

The Model # is WD1200XMS (it's 120GB - don't know if the model number tells that)

The OS is XP

Pls Help WD1200XMS install
Hi, I am using this WD external Harddisk for the past 5 months with no issues.All of a sudden for the past 2 days, whichever PC i use for connecting this external harddisk,i can hear the new hardware connection sound, but no visibility of the seperate USB Drive in My computer. The PC goes thru the automatic install software search and finally gives the error ' system could not find a suitable installation software' for this Hardware. I have lots of critical data in this Hard disk and i dont want to loose the data by trying the formatting or other options.

Is there any advice to fix this issue.

Model # WD1200XMS 120GB hard disk WD passport USB powered
PCs with different Operating systems i tried to connect(WINDOES XP, 2000,VISTA).

Any tips are really appreciated.

I have the exact same problem with the exact same drive.

WD sent me a dual USB cable and said it was a power isuue but that didn't work. Then they said the drive was &quot;done&quot;. I can not beleive that becasue the PC sounds when connected, just doe snot see the drive.

Have you been able to get an answer. I need help too.

Right Click on My Computer &gt; Click Manage
Open Disk Management

Here you'll see all the various drives and their configurations and some basic settings that you can change.

Does the drive appear here?

Yes, the computer (both my laptop and desk top) gives me an audible confirmation of the drive, I can NOT see it with Windows Explorer, but it does show up in Device Manag </span>


Anyway I think I know the Solution my friend because I have a similar problem everyday.....I will be Forward with the Solution.

How to reactivate USB Drive in Windows
Hi PDB my able Assistant Gilda will lead you through the process of reactivating your USB Drive under Windows XP.

Please Follow the Instructions in the Video

Here is the Western Digital Software for your drive. However there are no drivers that will help you, because your Western Digital Passport Drive does not need a Driver in order for Windows to recognize it as a Mass Storage Device.

The solution was given in the posts I quoted above but it was given not as a Solution, it was given as a Diagnostic and this workaround appeared to have been completely missed. Technically it is not a complete solution, since you will need to repeat it, every time you Log Off, then Log ON. However until I figure out a work around, this is a workable temporary fix.

Basically the routine involves going to the Disc Management Area, in Control Panel and Using the Disc Snap in Tool to reactivate your USB Drive.
Follow the Instructions shown in these pictures and see if they work for you:

Bwoy if mi did rich mi woulda pay unu. I'm working on an ancient Dell Notebook so when mi done mi wi check this out. Gong, thanx a lot man!!!

...can u believe that this laptop was bought (de Dell) 5 years ago and not one update was installed? This is the 4th set up windows updates I'm installing, all of 120 updates inlcuding SP 1 and 2 (XP). Savia Divine! A mi lady own so mi kiaan mek to much nyze!

Ouch!
You can skip SP2 and go straight to SP3 once you have updated from SP1.
In fact if I am not mistaken I think the final version of SP3 will udate base Windows.
You will still have to Download and update prior Security Fixes.

You should Download and run a Program called:
