Greets all, lang time since I've been around. I've been busy preparing for a move and am so disappointed to not be in Mpls with many friends today protesting the name of the Washington Redskins.
Today the "r" team is in Mpls. Today for the first time in decades I am rooting for the Vikings.
Somewhere from 4,00 to 5,000 protesters from all over the country assembled into 3 different neighborhoods in Mpls this morning and some marched at 2 1/2 miles in full regalia where they at once converged at the TCF stadium in Mpls.
TCF is the University of Mn stadium where the Vikings are hosting home games this year while their new stadium is built. Both the city of Mpls and the University have asked the Washington team to change their name for today to no avail.
I have a couple of links so far, which are sure to be full of more news as the day progresses. The game is near 3rd quarter end at the moment, and then everyone will head home to share images and stories, and I will share as many as I can here.
Local friend and photog Ivy Vainio posted some earlier shots, she is down there to record the event and is sure to have many more shots to share and probably some video later this evening. Some of her posts so far: I guess best just to go to her page, her protest posts will be public and I won't need to share them individually:
From Minnesota a few news articles from this previous week relating to the coming day:
After Ivy and Virgil arrive back home to northern Minnesota there is sure to be more they will share. The event was captured in part live on Ustream. If I find a link I will post it, but some well known keynote speakers were there giving their time on stage but before I go looking, the "r" team's bus crashed this morning in Mpls
