Not sure how many of you are having issues with the new IOS8 but found this article from this website for possible solutions. My old Ipad is acting up since I upgraded so I am going to try the hard reset.
Fix slow iOS8 on older iPhones
1. Hard Reset - Go to "Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings". This will erase all the content and settings. Do this as a large resort. You will also want to back up your phone. According to multiple users, this seems to be one of the best fixes for now.
2. Go to "Settings > General" and turn off the following:
(a) "Background App Refresh"
(b) As many sections of "Spotlight Search" as you can
(c) "Auto Correct" and "Split Keyboard" under "Keyboard"
(d) Everything under "Accessibility but turn on "Reduce Motion"
3. Go to the "Privacy" settings and turn off as many options as possible.
4. Go to "Safari" settings, turn off "Preload Top Hit" and turn on "Do not track".
5. Soft Reset - Hold the "Home" button and the "On/Off" button for a long duration of time (10s to 20s). The Apple logo should show up after this. Rumour has it that repeating it for 3 times helps.
6. Update to new releases of iOS 8 whenever possible. iOS 8.1 has been released to the public. You may want to check what are the potential iOS 8.1 issues before upgrading by reading my new post.
7. Reinstall iOS7 - According to many people, this yielded the best result. Unfortunately, there is no way to do this currently because Apple has stopped signing iOS 7. We will need to wait until some one finds a way to do so.
If you have tried everything and it is still not working, one method is to identify the root cause of this slowdown, i.e. which part of the iOS is causing this slowdown. I recommend downloading the app called "System & Monitoring Tools" from iTunes. Personally, I don't own an iPhone/iPad so I can't try it out. But, there might be something interesting that we can find out about what is wrong about the iOS8.
