Very Quick Idiot Techie Questions

how much do blank DVD's cost (approx).
can you purchase just one?
once the purchase is made and you get what you need home, does it work similarly to burning a CD?

i have something that i need to copy from a DVD.
kinda wanted to know what to expect before i began the process.

Go to CVS or Wally-World you may not be able to buy one but you get a four pack.
You need to format the DVD first.
The Burner Software will ask you questions such as Data or Music.... (I think?)
The price should average 25 cents to $1.00 per.

That only happens if I'm using the DVD recorder to record a movie/event from the telly, but if I'm burning something to DVD from the PC, it shouldn't have to be formatted.

So unless you are so lucku that you find a DVD disc that us already preformatted to the to the sub-format you are using,it will need to be formatted.
It is similar to the old days whe you could buy unformatted floppys,that could be used in Mac,or PC. You probably didn't know those days anyway.

Yep, I remember the floppy days and even then, only some of them had to be formatted before they could be used. I've used more DVDs (mostly SONY's) than I care to number and have never had to format one before &quot;burning/copying&quot; anything to it from the PC. That's why the initial response seemed so strange.

CEW I concur with you. I have done many and never had to pre-format. The software will take care of all yoiur needs.

The cost depends on where you buy the media.

Recording on a DVD can be slightly different than on a CD, depending on what you are trying fi record. Whe di &quot;suppen&quot; yuh ah copy, bootleg or X-rated? Yuh soh mysterious wid ie

The formaatting is doen soemtimes automatically,but depending on the software,you may have to finalize it which is formatting at the end anyway.

dis did suppose to be be simple tings ah eediot could follow...

suh when mi buy di DVD (it betta be $1.00 too TG ) it should already be the formatted kind, as in that's the only kind them sell?

when mi load the file mi want to copy to the computer...do i just click and drag and then follow the instructions or is more tings mi haffi do?

All you do is put in the disc. the computer will ask you what you want to do and then you follow the instructions, without skipping any step. And remember that a DVD disc will not copy in a CD although a CD disc will copy in both DVD and CD writer.
