The only thing stopping robots from replacing humans is that science lacks the full understanding of how our brains function. Once that is figured out and can be incorporated into a robot, we are screwed (a la Terminator).

Much more money is needed to research but as much as we like to think mankind has mastered the study of the human body, the brain is the one organ that largely remains a mystery to science in many ways. Once that nut is cracked, the ability to develop machines that are self aware will be possible.

self awareness is the problem with human employees not sure you want to make machines self aware.
