so, bear with me, please. mister mister has a bb and wants to get me one.

my carrier is verizon and i can get a bb for zero dollars with a new two year plan. (secretly the one i want will cost him 99 bucks - it is hot and red and sexy).

so, all is well with the Him wanting to make the phone purchase. i need some help regarding what the monthly service charges will be.

400 anytime minutes for the phone works easily for me.

but, what kinda charge am i facing for bb email ability, etc?

sorry if i am vague ... but, i am old and not understanding all this new technology.

if you have experience or answers, please let me know.

Well I am up here in Canada but my carrier (Rogers) probaly is basically the same as the Verizon one (I'm guessing).

For the Blackberry you will have your 400 minute anytime voice package but to access email and to surf the web you will need a data plan which is extra again.

Up here I pay $30 a month for 6GB of data, which is pretty much unlimited data for me as I have never needed more than 1GB per month. If all you are doing is checking email and doing some light surfing a 1GB to 2GB plan should be OK for the average person.

I pay double that for my data package but I am a heavy user.

Milo man is right, you dont need more than 1GB data plan if it is just for light usage.

Nooooooooooooooooo, that is too steep.

My package is 75/month BUT like I mentioned earlier, I use my blackberry alot for work. If I didnt then there is no way I would have a package at that price.

See if they have &quot;student&quot; packages. I am will Bell and they have student pacakges which include everything you need a low rate and you<span style="font-weight: bold"> dont </span>need to be a student to get them. Anything more than $40/month for the kind of usuage you will probably do is getting steep, IMO.

Just dont let them sell you a data package of more than 2GB. I still think 1GB would suffice.

bink if you are with VZ and you get a blackberry, you will have to pay a $29.99 fee for the BB to work on top of what you pay for your minutes. The 29.99 gives you unlimited text, web browsing, data loading.unloading

Yet people are paying it! Recession or no recession, people seem to love their smartphones.

I pay what equals to $30 CDN for voice, $30 CDN for unlimited data, $7 CDN for system access (or some such thing), $11 CDN for voice mail add ons etc..., and approx. $1 or $2 CDN fo 911 service. Grand total is approx.... $80 CDN per month. That equals out to approx. $64 USD.

As I live on my own I have removed my land line phone, so that is one less bill to pay. I don't miss having two phones. My phone is on my person at all times now, whether at home or while I'm out.

milo i havent had a land line since 01, but 80+ a mth is still WAY more than I had ever intended to pay for any cellphone bill
