If web site giving away free music and you down loading and put it on a cd for your own personal use.

How could that be stealing, to me it more like sharing. I guest they got this twisted or Its me
getting it wrong.

I think you have to clarify a bit and give an example of the kind of website you are talking about. There are some websites that actually give away songs free, no charge to you, others givr away samples, as well as, some artist who make their music totally free on the internet for anyone to download. Are you talking about the kind like_Kazaa?

Yes a resounding yes.
If those who produced it did not give to you,it is stealing.

Only the owners (producers of the music has the right to reproduce it,for distribution.

Yes downloading a song from sites such as Kazaa or Morpheus is stealing I think. However, I have been to those sites and have downloaded some songs that I purchased on 8 track tapes way back in the 70s. In those cases it is not stealing because I have already purchased the music, even though it was 30+ years ago. Up here in Canada file swaping is not against the law unlike the United States.

Yes, I am talking about web site like kazaa.
The music industries is hurting lot of people especially out there in california.

There is a parent of a little girl who was crying ofter they find hundred of illegal download music on there hard drive.

Parents couldn't afford it so the made some kind of settlement.

Well lets put it in perspective, the RIAA isn't playing around these days in the USA. They are suing people left and right along with some of the artists, for very large sums of money. If anyone chooses to still go ahead and do file swapping over the internet from one of these sites, be prepared to pay through the nose if you get caught.

I think I will go into Bloomingdales, download a couple shirts and take them home without paying for them. I bought some shirts there a couple years ago so it is not really stealing. Also they are hurting people who tried to take some shirts without paying last week too, they said they thought they could share the shirts with Bloomingdales, and after all, they had sold so many already, they were billionaires.

Why don't you guys actually talk to a recording artist who makes their living selling their creative work, then tell me how you can justify stealing from them.

According to a lot of recording artist, the majority of the money spent by consumer on each CD's don't go to them but to the big company's like SONY, BMG,....etc. Some say they barely get $2 on each CD. Where they make their money is on touring, writing, royalties.

Where did I say it was OK? I simply, re-stated the other side of the artist debate and the injustice that they also have to deal with from the same company they work for, who are crying foul, when they get the same screwing that they are giving to the artists that are under contract to them. They should not act as if they are looking out for the artists, because they (the big Co's) are only looking out for themselves.
