Why is the time on my home PC slowing down? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] I corrected the time twice today already and I just noticed that it is off again.

The last time it did this my PC crashed. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Compry, di battery on your mother board may be going or its retention clip needs tightening.

Yuh open yuh computer case. I assume yuh hav ah desktop and not ah laptop? Look fi ah round shinny really flat battery dat look like an over-sized watch battery or it maybe a long rectangle shape little box, wid a two wires pigtain comming out of it and pluging into your motherboard.

OK...found this on a site:

unplug all cables ...so the computer is just the box

put it on a comfortable table with good light peferable a wood char/ wood or cement floor...

remocv the case....could be screws, latches.... could come foward come backwards or go sideways...had a dell that you lie on its side and open it like a case...

before touching ANYTHING ELSE ....TOUCH something metal...to discharge static electricty

then lookinside the case...for a silver wafer(watch battery) when you find it.....touch metal again....if you zap you system your going to be misarable...

using an eyeglass screwdriver (flat one) carefully...did I say carefully lift up the battery....then remove it...wait did you touch metal....

now...after touching metal...never can be to safe pop the new battery ...usally but not always..RS232...back in


then revese the steps

real easy to do...in most cases

J-Kid, I have a desktop. I'm going to remove the battery and head to the computer store now. Like I said the last time I noticed this happening everything was wiped off my PC. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] Don't want this happening again.

You should have the replacement nattery whenever you are changing the old one. What you need to do is open the computer and make a note of the battery model number and buy it first then you remove the old one asnd replace the ney at the same time.

J-kid, I'm back. I went to two computer stores. The first one Direct Depot, had no idea what I was looking for so as you mentioned nor did they carry PC batteries, I immediately left. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] The second one had PC batteries but not the thingy that you told me to ask for. However he did tell me to go reset the time in the BIOS.

My next question is, how do I get into the BIOS? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] I'm armed with a screwdriver....I'm ready. Kidding.

Well your problem may be simplier to solve than you think.

before you start ripping off the case to look on the battery on your motherboard or try to access the bios try this first.

1. double click on the clock on bottom right of your task bar
2. Click the time zone tab
3. Make sure you have chosen a region that is compatible with your country.
4. make sure the check box "automatically adjust clock for daylight saving time" is selected and press ok

Providing ofcourse that you set the clock to the correct date and time first.

If you still got a problem then let me know via email and I will post instructions here on how you can change your bios settings. - (bios is a serious thing)!!

Tell me in your email the type of OS you got whether XP, 2000 etc.

J-kid, as I mentioned to you, I vaccumed the PC and did push on the battery just in case it wasn't in the slot properly. Since my last post, the time has remained accurate. I bet my PC is protecting itself from me entering the BIOS.

Morpheous, that's how I kept adjusting the time today and it would still slow down sometimes by 10 minutes.

Can you PM me instruction how to get into the BIOS anyway? I need to get my printer going...it keeps telling me that I need to change something in my BIOS to make it USB compatible.

LOL...compry may wanna check the bios first and see if that helps then if no luck she will have to rip off the computer case and check the battery.

After she touch the metal case a few times first to get rid a de static of course [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]
