Mouse Question

Am using an external mouse connected to my laptop via bus controller and lately the mouse has been hanging up. Seems like it moves across the screen then hits a line or something and just freezes. I can't connect it to the laptop directly because the port it goes to is being taken over by my special keyboard.
My mouse is one of those with the little red light on the bottom, so it doesn't have a wheel that might need cleaning.
Suggestions???

I have the same setup for my laptop and mouse. The mouse in question are referred to as an optical mouse. It uses technology identical to your optical disc drive. (dvd/cd).

Anyway I once had the same problem you had and I re-installed my mouse drivers and still had the same problem with the mouse appearing to freeze up. So I suggests you try this before re-installing your mouse drivers:

1. Turn your mouse upside down and blow into it
2. Blow into the hole where the light is coming from.
3. Get a small paint brush or anything similar and brush in and around the red optical light and the hole.

You may find that because your optical mouse does not use wheels it is however prone to collect dust and small objects into the little hole on the underside; blocking the optical light and causing the mouse cursor not to repsond to mouse movements. I assume you have a microsft keyboard or a one that has a USB port on it from which you plug your optical mouse into, unless you have a wireless optical mouse.

Thanks Morpheus. I did that, and then finally went and bought a new optical mouse (Microsoft) to replace the bargain price one I'd been using. The problem seems to have been solved and the new mouse is working fine. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my my request for help.
