Computer move very slow then make beeping sound

I have enuff memory.

Two harddrive so disk space is not a problem.

I replace the battry with a new one.

backup my files the reinstall window xp.

Beeping sound is coming from the little tiny speaker in side the unit. What could cause it to make that sound.

Then it will stop for few min and start again then slow down the computer speed.

If any one now what the problem is. Help me out if can. Thanks

When does it beep?
At startup, or when starting windows?

Might be a virus ?!

What OS you got?

few min ofter logging in window, it will come on frequently ofter running any other program.

I just disconnect the little speaker just to get rid of the beeping sound. Slow down doesn't stop.

its a on and off thing.

Your computer tells you when something is wrong by beeping via the system speaker. It is telling you therefore that something is most definately wrong and to ignore it is to do so at your peril.

It is important that you specify the kind of beep i.e. long beeps or short beeps or a combination of the two, means something different!!

If there are any error messages or numbers you need to let us know them too as each error number also means something unique.

Anyway for your benefit I have listed the beeps here.

BEEPS = MEANING
------------------------------
continous sound = power supply defective
many short beeps = defective motherboard
1 long = RAM refresh
1 long, 1 short = defective motherboard or ROM-BASIC
1 long, 2 short = video card error or dip switch (XT)
1 long, 3 short = error on EGA card
2 long, 1 short = synchronisation of monitor adaptor
2 short = parity error(incorrect memory checksum)
3 short = errors in the first 64K of RAM
4 short = timer or counter defective
5 short = processor failier or video RAM
6 short = error in keyboard processor
7 short = virtual processor mode set (AT)
8 short = incorrect writing to video RAM
9 short = wrong RAM BIOS checksum

The beep will lost for 5 min then stop for a nather 5 min then the beeping starts again.

probley I need a new computer then, this computer is

5 minutes is very long in this scanario!! No wonder you disconnect the system speaker but the problem remains and the longer you keep running your computer the more lasting damage you will create.

Solution
Seems to be:
continous sound = power supply defective

So change your power supply. If you just install another additional HDD or any other physical component like sound card, SVGA/graphics card, modem etc. This will in turn draw extra power resource from your power supply.

Many people upgrade their DVD and other fancy components and don't realise they are adding to the load of the already struggling power supply.

Three areas to look at seriously:
Your power supply (550 watts recommended). The more watts the power supply has the better/more powerful it is to handle all them HDD/floppy/expansion cards/DVD etc. etc.

Get system fan(s) installed on your machine. Average computer have 3. One at the front of the base unit/case and 2 in the actual power supply itself at the rear. Modern/Mod PCs can have up to 6 or eve 8 system fans!

Very efficient RAM cooling fan and heatsynk.

I will change the power supply to from 300 watt to 400 watt. Cause I did install a tv tuner not too long ago. I am now wondering if that might be the problem.

No virus detected in the system according to avis virus scanner.

you could also test it by taking out some stuff, like your tv tuner, and then see if the problem remains. If it does, then your powersupply is the cause of your worries ...

Mi find out mi problem now. Now di computer work really fast now.

Mi change di power supply up to 400 watt and my tv tuner was using the wrong drive that wasn't compatible with xp, Now get one that is digitally sign by microsoft.
