New Alarm System

I just bought a new alarm system - to be installed later to day.

It uses GSM unit to communicate with cell phone towers instead of the traditional phone line which can be cut from the outside.

Seems like I much better thing to deal with. But since this is new to me, does anyone have a system like this? And if so, are you cool with it? Ant drawbacks?

LOL seems like you are the only one who live a Fort Knox.
I have an old one but to use Cellular you have to buy an attachment.
I think it is a good deal using GSM/Cellular.

The guy did a really good sales pitch and I couldnt find any holes in his argument But I just wanted to throw it out there to be sure.

I have my wire box on the outside, so cutting the line before gaining entry is a real possibility. Plus, the damn power loves to go out around here and there is no battery pack power in the land line.

This seems to alleviate both problems, so far.

I just re-read this. Yes, a new panel and and GSM unit is installed. The entire upgrade costs more than 1K but I am getting it all for free because I am willing to place one of their signs on my front lawn.

The extra GSM costs an additional 20/month but my insurance will be even lower because of the GSM unit.

I have one and find no drawbacks.
It still uses the phone line, is when/if dem cut it de cell system takes over. I have a key pad for upstairs and one fi downstairs, and it came wid two wireless remotes.

I wanted to hook it up to some lights as well but haven't gotten to that yet, nor do I know if I will.

Yuh cyan even leff smaddy message pan de system, like seh I'm going out be back in so long, and when dem come home dem cyan si seh de yellow light a blink and chk de message.

yes, mine still uses the land line as well.

but didnt know about all the other features. Might need to read the manual....

I would think not JKid.

The system runs on my land line and on the cell line as well. So, the selling point is if the landline is ever cut or goes down then the GSM system takes over, so I am never without alarm activation.

Or am I missing what you are asking?

Is the system getting its power through the phone lines or via wall outlet, since it does not have a back-up battery?

Does it run off an internal battery, solar power, or some kind of out the wall electricity?

If it does, if they cut the power lines the system is dead, without a battery, or phone line feed.

I think the GSM unit runs on its own internal battery system. I just remmber that the two systems dont run from the same source.

Pan fi mi the keypad have an internal batter, but the whole system has a big backup battery for when the power goes out or and wires are cut.
