NOADWARE - Safe? or shady?

somebody mentioned using this software in another thread, I also just recently came across it; can anybody tell me about it?

cause it doesn't seem quite right to me - i'm wonderin if it's one of those nasty little buggers that act like they're removin the bad stuff but are really just adding MORE.

First of all it came up in the search results for "spybot" - kinda sneaky.

Then it masquerades as freeware, lets you install it (turns out to be only the "diagnostic" version, of course); runs the check on your PC, and only when you click to do the clean function.... it opens a webpage tellin you it costs so-an-so.

And (worst part) it hijacks your web browser settings; you can't get rid of it, clicking 'home' doesn't work, search bar and all buttons are disabled - even closin my browser altogether and re-opening, still came to that page only and would not budge. I had to uninstall the dyam thing to get rid of that webpage.

BUT! here's the thing - the list of stuff it found is real, i recognized some stuff i had downloaded a while ago that is known to be loaded with spyware, etc. I thought I had already uninstalled it but this thing found pieces of it still in there maliciously working away....

smart rat that I am, i thought i'd just use the specified path to find & delete the stuff myself one-by-one, but i could not find the files manually using the path & filename.

So now since i heard someone mention they use it i'm wondering what y'all experts have to say and if it really works. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

They are quite ligit. Just make sure you get the correct ones "Lavasoft Ad-Aware" and "Spybot Search & Destroy".

There are some people that try to copy them with similar or close sounding names and may be sneaky but the ones that are suggested here are OK.

IT is ah know bug, if you want to call it that, that Spybot detects Ad-Aware in some cases, as a potential trojan. I personally never have this issue, but some people do. Spybot advanced mode, allows you to set it to ignore the Lavasoft ad-aware program. Would you rather trust your system to Microsoft alone to protect it?

j-kid, i already have Spybot and Adaware, mi is talkin about another pieca spoftware altogether, called NOADWARE. it not free though, costd 29.95 to download it

smaddy mentioned they use it in addition to both Spybot & Adaware.

Sistacaf, anyting is possible.

But, figet bout it, jus stick wid di two yuh hav fi now, an use dem regular. Most ah di pro use di same two whe yuh hav, das why dem mek sure keep dem up-to-date.

the issue is that spybot and adaware are not finding everything. i downoaded and ran avast! and it deleted some trojans and trillians, but there are still 2 viruses present which it is not able to either repair or delete

the Noadware found things that nothing else so far has been able to find, which makes me wonder if it is really legit after all

Yuh not going to find anything that is 100% fool-proof. Remember that even large corporations, the FBI and Govt sites get these things, and they have millions of our tax payer's dollars to buy the latest technology. Virus/trojans are constantly changing and adapting. You just have to be constantly vigilant. The key is to not depend solely on just one tool.

yes j-kid, mi knoa dat. Is why i am trying to find out about the Noadware to use it in addition to the other ones mi have in mi arsenal

am updating my spybot and adaware "add-on tools" right now!
