Cingular, AT&T complete merger

Cingular Wireless today announced it has completed its previously announced merger with AT&T Wireless, creating the nation's biggest wireless carrier with the largest digital voice and data network in the country. The newly combined company will serve more than 46 million customers through its nationwide network, with the total cost of the merger rising to a considerable $41 billion USD.
According to Cingular, the carrier will now start opening access to both the Cingular and AT&T Wireless GSM networks to further improve coverage, allowing customers of both companies to use the new, combined network without roaming charges. Customers will also have the ability to make unlimited mobile-to-mobile calls to any Cingular or AT&T Wireless customer, whilst the combined footprint will allow for voice roamingin over 100 countries and GPRS roaming in more than 50 countries worldwide.
