dial-up vs high-speed

i've been with my high-speed provider for 1 year & just got hit with a rate increase....my question is this...

how will going back to dial-up affect my life as a whole?

i lived with dial-up before, when i had an old klunker computer....has high-speed spoiled me for life?

Yep Yep Yep,
no way will you be satisfied going back to dial up.
I use dial up in Ja and get so frustrated after being in the US on high speed.

Dial up in Jamaica function at less that 33KB,so it cannot be comparef with ebganced or turbo 56K available here.

I have 50.6kbs as we speak and have gone as high as 52 kbs.
The days of 33kb are long gone.

just wondering how 3mb high-speed would compare with enhanced dial-up in reading this message board, for instance.

and...would dial-up make loading pictures from a computer to a website ridiculously slow.

loading pic's is slower on dial up if it's a flat rate charge no problem,just the wait.

Now you are srious. l3M running at about 1.5 is realy good . what is the rate you are being charged,ah dow foed your budget allow?
Yes uploading eve with the turbo is really slow,because turbo56 does not improve graphic amnd audio. In addition,uploading is still much slower than downloading. even with your 3Mg. Usually like taking 4 times as much time as againmst down loading.
the othe problem with dialup is the loss of the use of your phone while on line,unless you get a second line,whicjh may just cancel out any saving without the benefit of the speed of broadband.

linchoy,you are lucky to be able to get 52K,and yes majority of dialup only clock out at 30k,believe me. I have had to use a satelite service,coming out of Mexico to be able to upload graphics and video because even the local DSL was so slow,and expensive that it was not worth it.

you will sit there and wait and wait and wait.....for the pages to load....like watching a movie in slow motion....

I would cut cost elsewhere....and suck it up...

My Internet Service Provider up here in Canada has something they call "high speed lite". It cost about 33% less than high speed and is twice as fast as dial-up. I switched to it for a while and it was great, I thought anyway.

I download quite a bit on music and with dial-up it takes me anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes to download one song, 2 to 3 minutes with high speed and about 5 to 7 minutes with high speed lite. Surfing sites like jamaicans.com was much better than dial-up too and only a tiny bit slower than high speed.

Maybe your ISP offers something like this too. Check it out if they do, you will like it.
